FatDog found renamed save file at boot.

Post by je55eah »

In an attempt to disable my save file I renamed it and added .old to the end of it. To my surprise, the file was detected and loaded by fatdog anyway.

How can I archive an old save file in place?

How can I create multiple save files and choose them at boot? I was going to add custom boot stanzas to the grub config file, but now I wonder if they will all be detected and I wonder what will happen.

Instead of renaming the extension ("old") of the filename, rename the filename portion to something of your choosing (other than its current name, of course).

ALSO, "I BELIEVE" you can move that 'old' savefolder/savefile into a subfolder on a drive as, IIRC, FD only searches a drive's root. Thusly a subfolder named "Old_Sessions" or something similar may be to your liking.

Hope this is helpful.

Thank you. I will definitely try moving the archive into a subfolder.

That's it. Thanks. What happens if there are two savefiles which match?

If the save files are in different locations or named differently, the boot will stop and the system will query which one to use to continue the boot cycle. Same with save folders.

I don't think the system will allow saving 2 files with the same exact name in the same location to begin with.

You're correct.

To satisfy my curiosity I created two savefiles,
fatdog64save.bill.ext4 &
fatdog64save.jill.ext4
When fatdog finds them I am given a choice to enter 1 or 2 to select the file to use. Unfortunately, I cannot enter anything with the builtin keyboard on the macbook. It works perfectly with a usb keyboard attached.
