Firefox ESR 32bit updater v5

Post by ozsouth »

Firefox ESR 32bit updater version 5 (checks for pulseaudio - must uninstall previous version).

NOTE: Your system needs minimum 2Gb ram (2Gb swap may do, but slow).

Sets up basic files needed to update & run Firefox ESR 32bit.
(Enables first install via internet download of 70+ mb also).
I made it as Firefox's auto-update doesn't work for me.

NEEDS APULSE installed unless you have pulseaudio. Issued as RUN-AS-SPOT. Runs from /opt/firefox.
- Briefly tested OK in ScPup32-20.06, bionicpup32-8.0 Use at own risk.

To install, first uninstall any other version of Firefox ESR bit updater (via package manager),
then remove any other Firefox (may have to remove /home/spot/.mozilla , if previous version old),
then click on .pet in ROX-Filer. Sets entries in Internet menu, & makes Firefox ESR 32bit the default browser.

Must then run Firefox ESR 32bit updater from Internet menu. Will download & install latest Firefox ESR 32bit.
Can take a few minutes to do, depending on internet speed. Will display 'DONE' when finished.

When Firefox prompts for a future update, decline, close it & run Firefox ESR 32bit updater from Internet menu.

ScPup32-20.06 needs gtk3 - is here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/hrhxsg3i ... 1.pet/file
ScPup32-20.06 needs xkbd libs (see below)
bionicpup32-8.0 needs apulse libs (see below)

My 60.4.0 esr 32bit FF doesn't update for me, running slacko 6.0. Is this .pet just an updater that is installed leaving my current FF in place, or do I need to remove the current 60.4.0 esr browser and reinstall it after installing the updater .pet?

@2dees - you need to remove old firefox first. Just delete the main firefox folder (in opt?) & the .mozilla one in root or home (after saving your bookmarks). Then install & run the updater. That should prevent corruption.
