Hello @Grey.

Have you ever set foot in Calculate?

Curious of your experience while there.

Hello @Grey.

Have you ever set foot in Calculate?

Curious of your experience while there.

Not so long ago I made an attempt to count the approximate number of "Russian operating systems". I got 20 plus a few unusual or unfinished ones.

"Calculate" I saw and took it into account. However, apart from the kinship with Gentoo, there is nothing interesting about it.

The most interesting and famous are of course Astra, ROSA and ALT. They are supported by serious organizations and these three distributions can be found in Russian schools, institutes, government agencies and even the FSB. Astra and ALT have permission and certificates to work with state secrets, but ROSA has cool names of distros in honor of rare earth metals :) Of course, special versions are installed in institutions, and not the usual ones that can be downloaded from the site.

In 2014, sanctions were imposed on Russia. Naturally, immediately there were calls to "create a domestic operating system." There are two approaches to creating "Russian software". The first is to write the source code of products from scratch, entirely by domestic specialists. The second option involves the creation of national software based on the refinement of borrowed source codes. It was the second option that was chosen by the majority of companies. Is it bad or good... a big question, the subject of a separate conversation.

I can say about the use in schools. Children are much more interested in Linux than teachers. Oddly enough, it is teachers who do not like to learn something new :)

Fossapup OS, Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 64 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB, Sound Blaster Audigy Rx with amplifier + Yamaha speakers for loud sound, USB Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro V3 + headphones for quiet sound.

Thanks @Grey for your insights on Calculate. Its been around for awhile and was merely curious of others who may have taken a look at it.

And your comment on "teachers" is the same here. University professors teach but willingness (probably due to lack of time) to pursue any advancements is ONLY within the scope of their assigned curriculum. And ONLY during summer breaks for most.

Just normal humans like the rest of us, I guess.

Thanks, again, and Happy Holidays to you.
