Google Chrome crashes the video card very often

Post by mimine »

Hi,

on bionicpup64 , Google Chrome crashes the video card (radeon HD 4550) very often when displaying videos or images.

radeon 0000:01:00.0: ring 0 stalled for more than 10044msec
radeon 0000:01:00.0: GPU lockup (current fence id 0x00000000005dade4 last fence id 0x00000000005daebe on ring 0)
.....
[drm:r600_ib_test [radeon]] *ERROR* radeon: fence wait timed out.
[drm:radeon_ib_ring_tests [radeon]] *ERROR* radeon: failed testing IB on GFX ring (-110).
[TTM] Buffer eviction failed

Anyone else has seen this bug ? :|

This Archlinux post says that he fixed the amdgpu IB test failed on gfx errors
by updating the BIOS and/or the motherboard firmware.

You are using the radeon drivers, as opposed to andgpu drivers.

i don't know if there is a less drastic fix.
Flashing the bios can brick your machine if it goes wrong.

Can you disable hardware acceleration in the Chrome settings menu?
you could try the modesetting driver maybe blacklist the radeon driver.

Does it crash with other Puppy versions? FocalPup is a newer OS than BionicPup.
Xenial is older then BionicPup.

Is your ram good?
Did Puppy download ok? Is the md5sum ok?
Do other apps crash the system?
