So I'm totally stumped on this. I've downloaded both kernel versions and tried in in ScPup64_21.04+4 and Bionicpup64. All indications are that the changes in the kernel compile are correct and sound is working. Both versions now default to using rt286 internal sound and seem to indicate sound is working. I still have no sound.

These results are for Bionicpup64.

When I run the Sound Card Wizard, testing sound visualy appears that sound is played, but there is no sound. Playing local mp3 files in deadbeef, the files appear in the Status bar as playing.

I have manually set all adjustable sliders in retrovol to maximum, but no sound. The odd thing is that the System tray icon shows volume as 2%, which I am not able to adjust. I have attempted to adjust volume in a terminal with amixer, but I'm getting nowhere with this.

@TerryH - some suggestions (I don't really know the answer):
- in Alsa sound wizard, have you tried soundcard wizard 2 / equaliser?
- run Alsamixer in a terminal & set sound card (F6) & volumes & unmute there.
- can you change the tray device in Retrovol (right-click, then Config window)?
- does it require pulseaudio installed?
- does your laptop have a mute key?

try blacklisting snd_hda_intel, also did you unmute the spkr channel in amixer. And do you have the latest ucm?

Thanks ozsouth & stemsee, still no internal sound.

Alsamixer from terminal no different, all sliders set to max. Retrovol doesn't allow me to do changes to the active sliders. The tray icon is not functioning. The laptop has a mute key, which appears non-functioning. When I run amixer in a terminal, it appears to indicate changes are applied and sound should work.

I added module_blacklist=snd_hda_intel to the kernel line of boot stanza, the only difference is that I no longer have HDMI sound as an option. I have no idea what ucm is, doing a web search didn't help me find out.

As I can get sound via Puppys / EasyOS that have working bluetooth, for the moment I am not going to pursue this issue.

Thanks for the assistance.
