Post by Governor »

fossapup64_9.5 in RAM-only mode

Copy/paste not working in terminal.

Any ideas?

How are you copying and pasting?

I tend to do ctrl+shift+c to copy and ctrl+shift+v to paste in a terminal. I'm not using fossa but copy and pasting is working on bookworm64

Firstly copy in the usual manner in text editor or whatever - mark item to be copied then control c or edit-copy. Then move cursor into terminal and press the centre mouse button (roller).
To copy from terminal highlight the item to be copied then press the centre mouse button. Then move cursor into text editor or whatever and control v or edit-paste.

Use Puppy Package Manager to install Lxterminal. Highlight what you want to copy and select Edit>Copy from LxTerminals Menu. Create/open the text or word-processing file and select Paste from its Menu.

URxvt may be great. But my fingers aren't.

Those key combinations work in the GUI, but not in the terminal.
My UP arrow key is hijacked, and I wonder if that has something to do with it. When I press the UP key mtpaint opens with a full screenshot.
It is awful.

fossapup is not listed in the package manager, should I search for Lxterminal in one of the others instead?

Using a two button mouse with a wheel to copy and paste into terminal ie URXVT

Copy the text from 'Left to Right' and then in terminal click the wheel button.

This works for me in Fossapup64 and JammyPup.

@Governor

Below, you can see two screen-grabs I made while copying and pasting from/to the terminal.
So - begin by looking at the screen grabs. Then compare what you seen in the first screen-grab with the brown text you see below.
They are the same, because the brown text below was copied from the terminal. The terminal in FossaPup.

# pwd
/
#
# #Here I am using the terminal from an unmodified FossaPup 96-CE
# #I started the terminal from the icon on the desktop. This is the second item from the top-left of the screen.
# # I used a 'stock-standard' method to install FossaPup.
# # Now I will copy/paste from the terminal.

As you can see - in the text above - I copied from the terminal and pasted here - on the Puppy forum.
Below, I made a screen-grab of the terminal - the same as you see above.
And now I will copy and paste a terminal command FROM here - to the terminal.

ls ./

In the second screen-grab you can see I successfully copied/pasted from terminal/to the Puppy Forum window.
It's a directory listing!
As for the strange operation of your 'up-arrow' key - Can't help.
My 'up-arrow' key in FossaPup copies the most recent line in 'history' onto the terminal screen.

Hope this helps!

собака.

(2) I typed the 'ls' command here - then I pasted it (ctrl+shift+v) into the terminal.
It worked - and you can see the result. A directory listing. JUST USE THE SHIFT KEY!

That wheel button trick worked. First time I ever heard about it.
That is good for a stop-gap solution, but I used to be able to use the same key combinations as in the GUI, like Ctrl+C for copy and Ctrl+V for paste.
Ctrl+C now gives me ^C (Ctrl-Break). Ctrl+V gives nothing, unless I do it twice in a row, then it gives me ^V.
Could not find these keys in the JWM hotkey area.
