I would appreciate instructions to install krita SFS file in Easy version 5.4.5.
No Internet install. Just drag in SFS file.
Does Buster or Dunfell have to be installed??
I get a path error in boot message when I try to install krita SFS

@don570
Did you get it from here:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/easyos/amd64/ ... an/buster/

If so, you will need to download the three krita* files to the same path locally, that is:

/mnt/wkg/sfs/easyos/debian/buster

Krita will have to run in a container, so you will also need to download the three easy* files from ibiblio, same place you got krita* files. And to that same local path.

Then disable Internet connection, by click on network tray icon and choose "Disconnect", then click on "pkg" icon and choose "SFSget" and it will run offline and you can choose to install easyos/debian/buster/krita*sfs
Then you will have "krita" icon on the desktop.

Yes. Native app installed via pkgget.

Re-installing it back, some libraries are missing:

@bugnaw333
I have been through the exercise, booted 5.4.6 on a usb-stick, installed OBS and its deps via PKGget.
Created a desktop icon for OBS.

Then rebooted, then clicked "update" and updated to 5.4.7.

Ran PKGget and confirmed OBS and deps are still shown as installed.
OBS still works.

What has gone wrong is that /usr/share/applications/obs.desktop got removed, replaced by obs.desktop that is in easy.sfs. This has the orange-ball icon and executes /usr/bin/obs.install

I understand the problem, and will fix it for 5.4.8, however for you a quick fix would just be to edit /usr/share/applications/obs.desktop and change "Exec=obs.install" to "Exec=obs"

Anyway, you reported that you re-installed OBS, so I attempted to do that, via PKGget, however it popped up a message "Sorry, this package is already installed, it cannot be installed twice".

So, I don't understand your situation. I will do some more tests.

You have to uninstall first thru PKGget then reinstall. ;)

That's right.
There was no need to uninstall then reinstall, as it was already installed.
All that was wrong was the obs.desktop file.
If you had opened a terminal and run "obs" it should have worked, I think.

What I don't understand is why you got errors by uninstalling then reinstalling obs.
It reported the dependencies were missing, which is very odd. It seems they must have got uninstalled, yet still listed in /root/.packages/user-installed-packages as installed.

If that is the case, remove the deps from user-installed-packages, uninstall obs and try again to install obs and it should also install the deps.
The deps of obs are: fftw, imagemagick, mbedtls

The update went well, just a small bug with the layers fix after update :

in the menu, the pre-install entries with orange ball have replaced the real entries of the programs i have installed
(More in detail : In easy 5.4.8 i have installed aqemu via the orange ball entry menu, then the orange ball entry in the menu changed in a real entry to the application. After the update, the orange ball entry returned and replaced the link vers the app)

A couple of questions that were asked sometime back.
Someone asked how to change the root password.
There was a question how to change an app from running as root to running non-root, and vice versa.

Both of these are now simple GUIs:

Question??
Is it possible to install Whisper software on EasyOS
to translate into English foreign language audio files quickly.
It requires ffmpeg and python to be installed so maybe it can.

Real time speech to text is possible as well

Great choice to include Flowblade as built-in in EasyOS 5.4.10. I haven't done a video project for some time, but used Flowblade a while ago for several projects, which was quite easy to learn, producing excellent results.

EasyOS 5.4.10 running very nicely. Thank you.

Is it possible to install Whisper software

This is an impressive software! I have tested many different open-source speech-to-text programs for years; this is without doubt the best I have found so far. The accuracy is simply astounding! One has to see it in action to be believed!!

And once the model is downloaded, all the operations as done offline. No voice data is ever sent out to the internet, at all.

Real time speech to text is possible as well

I have not tried this one yet, however I found C++ version of Whisper, which also has real-time conversion app; and it works exceedingly well.

An Example of translation:
Twitter user used OpenWhisper to translate this video

It seems to be accurate although colloquialisms are used.

I've used a professional service to convert to text and then used google translate to translate.

However the free trial service has a time limit of 10 minutes and the user has to wait about ten minutes for the conversion to happen.

EasyOS is installed on 2 partitions. One with no encryption, the second with encryption (small password) for test.

Before the update to 5.4.10, I could read all the files in the crypted partition (if password had been entered) since the not encrypted EasyOS.
After the update (of the two EasyOS), the decryption (by the not encrypted Easy) doesn't work.

(Probably unrelated. Before the update, a very big number of files was created in the crypted partition (by the nix-env comand))

Complete Newbie to linux, first post here. Had special wishes for a linux distro, to my amazement out of 70 tested live linux distros by now, only Mageia and EasyOs worked with my setup out of the box. However, Mageia failed after 2 tedious installs again.

So I found the instructions to install EasyOS on a separate drive here refreshing: https://easyos.org/install/how-to-insta ... drive.html - since I had already a vfat boot/esp and a ext4 on a new USB-stick, and just having to copy/paste the ISO-file content to their particular partition.

However, the boot of EasyOS on the stick failed, with the following message: PANIC: linux: failed loading kernel at path 'boot://easy2/easyos/vmlinuz'. Is the path correct?

Copied and pasted the "wkg_uuid" parameter from 'blkid' into limine.cfg. Can there be seen anything wrong with the paths in my preparation, seen from within EasyOS live?

Image

If I start the limine bootloader there, it recognized only the windows11 and formerly installed Mageia, but not the EasyOS.

The photo is too small, I can't read it.

It is useful to study the Limine documentation:

https://github.com/limine-bootloader/li ... /CONFIG.md

I presume that "easy2" is the filesystem label. You can get that from 'blkid'
Then the URI format would be:

KERNEL_PATH=fslabel://easy2/easyos/vmlinuz

vmlinuz will have to be in folder 'easyos' in an ext4 partition with fslabel "easy2"

Example for limine.cfg here:

https://bkhome.org/news/202207/testing- ... puter.html

Anyway, if that is all that you want to do, install EasyOS to a usb stick, just copy the easy*.img file to it.
That's all, it will boot. You have to use a suitable app that copies .img files, some are listed at easyos.org.
This page describes "USB Image tool" if you are running Windows:

https://easyos.org/install/how-to-write ... drive.html

Either with touchscreen or CRTL+ it can be enlarged to become readable. My sight is pretty bad too.

That's exactly how it is.

I don't think the limine bootloader fails. It starts up, but just can't find the EasyOS in the next ext4 partition on the USB drive. Asking if the path is right.

Also, if I start the limine bootloader from within the live EasyOS (run on an other USB-stick with Vetoy), it finds Windows and Mageia, but also not the EasyOS. So something with the ext4 or its files might actually more likely gone wrong.

I saw. Just was mystified by your most straightforward method to install, without the need of other applications, Therefore wanted to see if I get to work it that 'easy' way. Would the USB-image tool overwrite the vfat boot and ext4 partitions again?

@pamojja

In your limine.cfg you have got
boot://easy2/easyos/vmlinuz

but it should be fslabel
KERNEL_PATH=fslabel://easy2/easyos/vmlinuz
MODULE_PATH=fslabel://easy2/easyos/initrd

or you can use boot: but then you dont need to include the label
KERNEL_PATH=boot://2/easyos/vmlinuz
MODULE_PATH=boot://2/easyos/initrd

I think either should work.

Jay, exchanging 'boot' with fslabel worked. Thanks so much for your perceptiveness, you saved my day.

It boots up, and after 3 boot-ups the settings like the wlans key start to stick, and is connected automatically. Everything seems to continue to work, just as in the live trial, and other than the tedious Mageia installs, failing after with sound or responsiveness again.

What I don't understand, and probably don't need too at first, is how that 'boot' got into that limine.cfg file within the ISO? I first changed only the guid number according to instructions. After that and it still didn't boot, I also played around with different naming of the sdb2, in the original limine.cfg file only '2', then to easy2, and finally now to simply 'easy'. And renaming the sdb2 also accordingly in GParted. So I never changed anything else in the original limine.cfg file, except the guid and the drive label. Would make it appear this wrong designation is already there in the original ISO, and consider it worthwhile to correct it there, so other newbies don't run into the same difficulty.

Philh wrote: Fri Aug 11, 2023 9:42 pm

That was how it was originally in the path of the limine.cfg/ISO file, but didn't work. It is still there under video something second entries, but there it doesn't hinder the boot.

Interestingly, from within installed easyos the limine bootloader still recognized the windows11 and Mageia install, but not the now booting and perfectly running EasyOS installed.

Does this work

KERNEL_PATH=boot://3/easyos/vmlinuz
MODULE_PATH=boot://3/easyos/initrd

if the empty space at the beginning of your disk is considered the first partition.

I installed 5.4.10 to a usb stick, booted without password, clicked on a partition that has encrypted folders, a popup asked for the password, then I was able to access the encrypted folders.

What will not work is trying to access partitions using the old v1 fscrypt. That is EasyOS versions before 5.3.

I have tested the mount of the encrypted partition with the script AppRun in /root/.pup_event/drive_sdaX (X is the number of the partition).

Extract of the code :

RETVALS="$(gtkdialog --program=DA_FSCRYPT_DLG --center)"
PW="$(echo "$RETVALS" | grep '^FSPASSWORD=' | cut -f 2 -d '"')"
SALT="$(cat /root/.SALT)" #zeus:zeus 600, so hidden also from crippled-root.
#.../root/.SALT created in 3buildeasydistro. note: see also init script in initrd
PASSPHRASE="$(echo -n ${PW}xxxx | argon2 ${SALT} -l 32 -r)" #64 byte hash generated from password.
echo -n "$PASSPHRASE" | fscryptctl add_key /mnt/${xONEDRVNAME} >/dev/null 2>&1

I have added echo $PASSPHRASE after this part in the code to watch the execution.
The result was "nothing"
So i have executed "echo -n ${PW}xxxx | argon2 ${SALT} -l 32 -r" (after export of PW and SALT values) in the terminal
And then the result was "Illegal instruction"

After a quick search i found https://bkhome.org/news/202307/argon2-i ... ction.html

Strange, Easy 5.4.10 is built with the argon2 PET that I compiled in the Compaq Presario.

I wonder if you have an 'argon2' binary that is on top of the one in easy.sfs
Look at /mnt/wkg/.session/usr/bin to see if there is an 'argon2' there, and/or a .wh*argon2* whiteout file.
If so, delete it/them then immediately reboot.
