If AI will produce actually truthful news reports.

You go AI!

But if it is going to make UN true news reports, like a lot of them are in the United States.

Especially political news!!!

Then it is going to be the real tool used by corrupt governments, all over the world.

WE started posting on this topic a few short months ago. As such, the advancements have jumped to WARP speed.

The LLMs keep getting bigger and now countries are entering into the action. The International Business sector is already taking advantage ever as users, like members here, are just getting on-board. What these business guiders are doing is NOT intended to constrain what they are doing. Rather, they, each will push for constrains of others in the industry such that they gain a technical advantage in their use of the various LLMs.

I foresee some really interesting future occurrences to happen in the next 6 years as mankind's "intelligence" manipulates the accurate information pool to disguise and control public use. This term "Artificial" isn't artificial at all. Rather its a term that much user understanding and misunderstandings is based upon media and reports across public info service.

I'm already educating my grandkids such that they can follow as this term morphs while at the same time being grounded enough at its foundational information pool(s) ... going forward. It is hoped that with a good base, they will be able to navigate into a successful tomorrow for both themselves and the world around them.

I think one of the biggest risks is when AI is put in place as a layer of "insulation" that serves to take responsibility away from corporates and governments.
They have some "thing" to blame instead of some "one".
You can use AI as an impersonal and detached proxy to treat others badly...

Instrument with AI

Do I consider this a "kindergarten"? Yes :) Am I waiting for a kindergarten-enabled LMMS plugin? Of course, my hands are shaking with impatience 8-)

I searched this thread for "Peraton" and found nothing.... Interesting as Peraton holds the Alliant II contract for $75 billion, and several other multi-billion dollar contracts involving AI. Possibly the best-funded AI project on the planet and nobody talks about them. Going by their leadership and board members, as well as much of their efforts spent on developing more efficient ways of killing human beings, it's not encouraging.

Yes, human using AI as a tool to produce FAKE information to other humans. AI does not know the difference in producing something for good versus being used for something bad.

We should NOT be afraid of AI. Instead we should be afraid that humans will use AI against human's best interest.

The rules may lead mankind to a reset. Where we change to seek advancement as a collective versus the bad behaviors of our past. There is evidence that this seeking for collective advancement has been a message recorded for the last 12,000 years. We, in our individualisms still have not gotten it. We've tried League of Nations. We tried the UN. But we still struggle in getting the message-understanding of unification and collective interactions. We are constantly conditioned to WAR.

Humans are the problem...not AI.

In my lifetime with AI, the focus has been looking at improving solutions. This creations of lies and fakes in human behaviors has led us to a point where the billionaires want rules to stop people from access to knowledge in a way that doesn't benefit them, while they use it in their experiences to re-structure knowledge available to the populous.

The last 18 months is exposing a change.

AI is good. AI is helpful. Its use can be directed in achievements at a speed which continues to increase.

I hope mankind finds a way to inspire productive uses at a grand-scale to everyone on the planet. AND I hope that there is a way to minimize bad actors in AI's use. (Optimism!) :!:

Just yesterday, while I was drinking tea, I watched the third movie in the kitchen and plus the ending of another movie about Terminator.

Where did you get your hopes and optimism from :) ? AI learns based on the data offered to it by people, that is, it absorbs all the vices and mistakes of people. If you think that some filters will work there, as in the built-in Fossapup's search pFind by Sigmund, then give up hope ;)

There are efforts to try to handle this misbehavior. Here is one example.

Hopefully many additional efforts will filter its way down to human (us) use and understanding.

We will always be "gifted" with those who will NOT accept evidenced based knowledge; along with those who want to use their emotions as their guidance to truth.

Just yesterday, while I was drinking tea, I watched the third movie in the kitchen and plus the ending of another movie about Terminator.

I had the chance to work and hang around with the guy who wrote "The Terminator" and developed the screen play for the first movie. He was in charge of posting to Discover Channel's web site a daily diary of the progress of James Cameron's Expedition Bismarck while we filmed diving to the battleship Bismarck wreck site on Russian deep sea submersibles the MIR-1 and MIR-2.

This morning in Connecticut one can start off watching Terminator on TV, later on the rest of the Terminator movies will be shown in a row.
Happy St.Patrick's Day I guess...........I still like HAL 9000 better though.

To be honest, everything that appeared AFTER the first two films is just a set of special effects. They need to learn how to retire from the stage in time.

In addition, it is completely wrong to count on ONE messiah, president or fighter against robots/AI. In the movies, it's clear... let's appoint his wife, son, colleague and all that after the loss of the hero. In fact, it will turn out as usual ;)

Some in this community, may also have seen this coming. Nvidia has been alluding to it for several months. MS has put the 1st stake in the ground. Apple-Google, AMD, as well as manufacturers have been lining up or are already moving toward such a deliverable. World market dominance is afoot and peoples of the world are the recipients.

I am not sure which will win; namely a cloud implementation supporting customers or local PC implementations for customer roles and controls. ... or both

As this thread's title suggest ... THEY'RE HERE!

@Clarity Come on, relax. As a last resort, I will arrange for you to be a bell ringer in a Russian Orthodox church and AI there will not be able to get your mortal body to install implants ;) At the same time, you can drive away demons by ringing bells :)

But seriously, there is interesting news. The French company (Labodet) offers iPhone 15 owners to buy cases. The price is 300 thousand dollars. The design was developed using AI :!:

Made of genuine alligator leather and Nile crocodile leather🐊 The edging around the camera unit is made of pure 18-carat gold, and four diamonds with a total weight of more than 12 carats are inlaid on the back cover👑💎

Each case is made in France by hand, the production of the case can take up to 35-40 working days. The name of all the working girls is Jeanne (Joan) and they are virgins from Orleans

But there are no magnets to which the wireless charging is attached :P Well, the rich man doesn't need it. AI will confirm.

I mean, it's just become fashionable to mention AI everywhere now. Any product magically gets more expensive and becomes "cooler" if you add something about AI. Example:
"Neighbor, why are your apples so expensive?"
"AI helped grow the apples"🍎🤖🍏
"And why is the fence around the apple tree not painted and fell to the ground?"
"AI is to blame. He couldn't find the right color. I didn't decide on my own"

With Central Bank Digital Currency and Universal Basic Income you might be issued a "gubnint chromebook."

From the article: What-you-need-to-know-about-the-CBDC-pilot-study-proposal

...The proposed test study will address both security issues related to Digital Currency as well as on-line access for underserved communities. It's goals include integration of account accessibility as well as AI driven social services. The supplied device such as a Chromebook would run using power supplied by Skynet, and only accept voice commands that match the user voice voice identification profile. The algorithm would interact audibly with text-to-speech prompts, and analyze user bio-feedback to tailor its personalized responses. User emotional states would be addressed with appropriate interventions such as the playing of music or changes in the vocal tone of the speech engine ..."

AI is not coming, "THEY'RE HERE!"

Post by Clarity »

@bugnaw333, your prior post is an excellent contribution to the theme of this thread.

For the past 53 years, I have been concerned at the level of mis-information that is thrown about in the world. It is used at ALL levels of mankinds existence and is taught to each of us humans beginning couple years after birth. We teach kids about the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, Halloween, etc. Innocently as this is done, it leads to several manners of our behaviors; either creatives among us or the followers among us.

Professor Hinton indirectly alludes to this as the LLMs contain evidence of this; namely truths and mis-informations. As such, we are our own worst enemy and because of our behavior in the lifestyle we have led, is the primary reason "why" some in society are afraid of AI; especially the rich!

AI is not a threat to the masses, per se; AI is a threat where the masses could/will benefit over the greed and gluttony of the Rich. Use of mis-information in the future will diminish, IMHO, as it continues. The ONLY present way to slow its progress is for the rich to restrict who has access to the ability that AI offers each human who takes advantage of it. Thus, only the rich will have access while the masses will be denied the enormous benefit AI 'could' bring in a non-chaotic way. The evidence of this is that each AI offering(s) are already designed around a capitalistic cost model. This means that those without money will NOT be able to use it the way those with money can and will be able to.

I have been paralleling what is called AI since 1985. I, like the Professor, am not scared by it. I understand where it came from, what it is currently, and where its going. Its too bad I am too old to contribute and to see it play out for very much longer, but, AI, in its current state is ONLY a step in the planet's evolution.

Every human on the planet would benefit iff the US, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and the rest of the Americas are willing to change the GREED factor we have been hell-bent on for the last 7000 years. Without such, the only way out is a biological reset.

Hope (or as Grey shared about me, 'optimism') is that I am not the only one(s) who understands the achievements we, humans, can go on to. @Grey, though, may be right and there is no way for those humans populations with the power are ever going to want to see a different pathway forward as they are locked into their present behaviors.

HOPE is merely a vision! Action, meaningful ACTION, is what is going to be needed. If there is a way for mankind to change from its current greed model to one of wanting a future of total cooperation of the peoples of the world, without requiring an Atomic WAR, it must happen for life on the planet to continue movement forward.

The UN was the right idea for human cooperation after WWII, but, the greed factor does not allow it to move forward because the power brokers are engaged in an ideological war affecting everything from pathogens to intellectual-knowledge to technology to climate to resource-sharing to ... well you get it.

AI's development has merely sped the clock up for humans to determine the way forward...or backward.

GREED factor
The UN

There was such a good (not bad :) ) movie in the early 90s. Greedy. So it seems Uncle Joe symbolizes the USA. And his family is the UN. And the uncle does not skimp on antics.
And pay attention to the slogan of the film there in the picture on the right ;)
And again with an actor from Back to the Future :)

Can. But they won't. Being able and doing these are different things.

I read books by Soviet science fiction writers (yes, there were quite a lot of them) written much earlier than 1985. But it usually ended badly there. Although there was one utopian option... But no, that's not going to happen. I'm talking about serious writers, not books in the style of "socialism will be established on Alpha Centauri and they will send us apples on spaceships with the red inscription of the USSR" ;)

Nova last night was on AI
It is doing some great things. My understanding is it works like our minds using a neural network. Looking for patterns. We do the same thing but don't have billions of data points to look at and can't look at then as fast. So it see patterns that we don't. It can predict future some cancer 5 years out with a accuracy of 80 to 90%. Many in the field are saying we should understand better what it doing before it too far ahead of us. However the race is on in the corporate world to win the AI challenge.
With all things we make it is a double edged sword. What can be used for good can also be used for bad.
I biggest part of that is going to be disinformation and fakes. In the show someone posted a fake image of an explosion at the pentagon. It spread on social media like fire and the stock market dropped a few trillion dollars

Why do we do things: WE INTEND to build such that we achieve greater efficiencies.

Why do we write programs, scripts, procedures, and the like: greater speed and efficiencies.

Why was the educational systems put in place: to allow many more humans to be better at designing things for greater efficiencies.

Humans did NOT design AI to replace humans. Just as mankind has done in the past, we will adapt and the technologies we continue to create will move forward using AI as just another tool for mankind's direction.

Mankind is a technological design in its own right. Fear not, today's people will do exactly what we have done in our lifetime.

I grew up in a time when the telephone was on a wire that other households were on too...and had to wait until it was clear to make a call. Look where we are today! How do you think your great-grands thought of technology in their day? I know, as I remember mine! Some comments I have seen since AI became publicly available remind me of my great-grands. WE, today, are THEM.
