Frugal install of Puppyrus

Post by don570 »

I was able to do a frugal install of Puppyrus ---> An all-Russian install of Puppy linux.
You need to read Russian to use Puppyrus since the menus are nearly all in Russian!!!

By doing a frugal install you can avoid the burning of a DVD disc.

Instructions:

1) Download http://mirror.yandex.ru/puppyrus/puppy ... -15.12.iso

2) Open the iso up by double clicking or use Uextract

3) Create a folder on your hard drive called 'puppyrus'
Drag these files to the puppyrus folder.
(Note that all these files aren't necessary but it's easier to drag all.
The menu.lst assumes a CD install so ignore it.)

4) Assuming that your computer already uses grub or grub4dos
You should modify your menu.lst with this insertion..

Code: Select all

title PuppyRus-find
find --set-root --ignore-floppies /puppyrus/vmlinuz
kernel /puppyrus/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=/puppyrus pfix=fsck pupsave=none
initrd /puppyrus/initrd.gz

or alternatively you can specify the hard drive partition
which was (hd0,2) i.e. this is the third partition on first hard drive

Code: Select all

title PuppyRus
root (hd0,2)
kernel /puppyrus/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=/puppyrus pfix=fsck pupsave=none
initrd /puppyrus/initrd.gz

______________________________________________

If you have a pupsave file in /puppyrus, then change 'pupsave=none '
to pupsave=/puppyrus

Note that I have not been successful in frugal installs of other Russian language ISOs.
This is why I recommend this ISO even though it is old.
