Oh, thanks for that. Where can I download a package for the newer version that will work with Puppy?

"0.4.5c and later versions of grub4dos support bmp files and compressed .bmp.gz files in 640×480, 800×600 and 1024×768, 8, 16, 24 or 32 bit colour, later versions of 0.4.6a also support .jpg files."

@amethyst :-

Do bear in mind, Nic, that the build of Grub4DOS in use by Puppy has, so far as I'm aware, been optimised to work WITH Puppy. I'm not sure as these newer builds will necessarily function quite the way you'd expect them to...

Just be careful. You don't want to "bork" things, mate.

Mike. ;)

Yes, decided against using a newer version. Just to have a picture with a higher resolution display for a short while at bootup does seem a bit of an unnecessary upgrade/exercise, besides, it's quite fun to see what one can produce with 14-colour restriction.

Attached a zip file with a few 14-colour splash images I made. For those not sure how to activate: add the following line to menu.lst (just before the timeout line).
splashimage=LocationAndNameOfFile.xpm (Example: splashimage=/Cheetah.xpm Best to place the images at the same location as menu.lst I think.
