CubicSDR instalation in puppies 64 with pulseaudio

Post by Anacleto »

Hi, I'm glad because I managed to install CubicsDR in Puppy and have sound, it has not been easy, but in the end I got it. And this is because Quickpup64 works correctly pulseaudio.
For this we will have to install three PET packages.

Before installing CubicsDR you must make the gnuradio installation and all adjustment processes indicated in the next post, go to the link:

viewtopic.php?t=4903

The first package is the libraries, you need many libraries that's why I've all put them together in a single package.

CubicSDR_library_v.02.5.dev.pet Updated to 7 february 2022

https://www.mediafire.com/file/4g1dtvff ... v.pet/file

The second installation package is Soapy

SoapySDR_X86_64.pet Updated to 7 february 2022

https://www.mediafire.com/file/yqm0nc49 ... 4.pet/file

The third installation package is the CubicSDR program.

CubicSDR_v0.2.5_x86_64.pet Updated to 7 february 2022

https://www.mediafire.com/file/odsk1esz ... 4.pet/file

****************************NEW PETs FOR SLACKO64_8.2.1****************************

1) Install:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/fjxxnzsi ... 1.pet/file

2) Install
https://www.mediafire.com/file/jlffhr18 ... v.pet/file

3) Install
https://www.mediafire.com/file/0ld7s035 ... 1.pet/file

4) Install
https://www.mediafire.com/file/xdm2g18x ... 1.pet/file

Menu entry in Utility

****************************END****************************

In Fossa64 I get to install Cubicsdr but I could not make the audio work, because I do not get Install Pulseaudio correctly.

When you open the program you must press over spectrum if you want get sound.

I hope this program is useful as it is for me.

Greetings

@Anacleto
I have installed CubicSDR but I have a problem with it which I think might be due to the fact that my device is just a cheap Chinese generic device. As you can see in the attached image it is detected but it will not start. I have tried pressing the "start" button shown on the image and in File>Stop/Start on the display. Does the device have to be a SoapySDR device or should the generic rtl-sdr device work?

Regards,

Ken.

Yes is ok. Yo do like the picture:

Not me also have a cheap Chinese device and works perfectly.

Have you given the Start button? If it does not work for you. Show some screen saying something?

I had some success I getting GQRX to run in Fossapup64 9.5 with working audio by using apulse. I thought I'd try it with CubicSDR. However, I get the output below from running in a terrninal.

Code: Select all

root# apulse CubicSDR
CubicSDR: error while loading shared libraries: libhamlib.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
root#

I can't find libhamlib.so.2 in the ppm. I am wondering if this is something to do with an issue I had with installing libQt5_5.14.2_x86_64 for GQRX. This installed OK but when I first ran GQRX I got an incompatibility error with what might have been another version of libQt5 which I seem to remember was 5.14.8. I uninstalled the libQt5_5.14.2_x86_64.pet. Running apulse gqrx again GQRX ran with audio. However as CubicSDR does not appear to need libQt5_5.14.2_x86_64 I think this problem I had with libQt5_5.14.2_x86_64 and GQRX is unlikely to be causing the problem I'm having with CubicSDR. Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Regards,

Ken.

Ken try this :

use pFind to locate libhamlib, it should be in something like /usr/lib.

If you find libhamlib and spot the binary of the version you have, make a symlink to it called libhamlib.so.2 right there in the same directory

In the PPM searching for just "libhamlib" should work better. But I think if you supply a symlink called /usr/lib/libhamlib.so.2 that points to the version of libhamlib you have.

I hope I have described it well enough. This might work. If not try the PPM and the improved search string.

Hi rockedge,
I've done the above in both Quickpup (where CubicSDR works) and in Fossapup (Where I get the error mentioned previously). As you can see from the attached images they both look the same. In both cases libhamlib.so.2 is a sym link to libhamlib.so.2.1.3 and they are in the same directory in both Quickpup and Fossapup i.e. /usr/lib64 so I am a bit baffled to why libhamlib.so.2 is not found in Fossapup but appears to be found in Quickpup.

Ken.

Hi rockedge,
I did the above then ran apulse CubicSDR and got another error this time with a missing libliquid.so.2d. I found this in /usr/lib64 and sym linked it to /usr/lib. I ran apulse CubicSDR again and got another missing file. I think this could be quite a file "chase" but not tonight as I'm going to bed. This is probably a daft question but is it possible to sym link all of /usr/lib64 to /usr/lib or would this cause lots of other problems. I kind of have the feeling it would.

Ken.

Hi keniv and rockedge .

Yesterday I don't look at anything on the Internet.

I try to run these SDR programs at FOSSA-PUPPY, a distribution that I like a lot.

But it was impossible for me to operate pulseaudio, once you get to put all the libraries you will see it very difficult for you to create an audio device to be played by cubicsDR or another SDR program.

I take a long time and in the end I did not find the solution.

On the other hand you will find libraries that although you find them will not help you because they are compiled with different compiler. The typical GLIBC_

I do not want to discourage you, I hope you're lucky.

Greeting.

Hi keniv and rockedge .

@Keniv @rockedge

I have run CubicsDR with audio in Fossa-Puppy.
Then this afternoon I tell you how to do it.

rockedge You told me that I could work with "apulse" and I did not pay attention , And you had the entire reason.

And executed CubiSDR the way you said.

apulse CubicSDR

And it works perfectly with audio.

This afternoon I send you a post.

See you.

Hi Anacleto,
I have got GQRX to work on Fossapup64 9.5 (kernel 5.4.53) with audio using apulse. Please see my last post here viewtopic.php?p=47967#p47967 on the GQRX thread. I did have a problem installing libQt5_5.14.2_x86_64 but found it wasn't required (please see post 5 on this thread). I think you should be able to get GQRX to work with audio in Fossapup64 9.5 with the current kernel. CubicSDR is another matter.

Ken.

I can get GQRX to run in Fossapup with audio but can't get CubicSDR to run at all. Can you give details as to how you got CubicSDR to run in Fossapup. I have it running in Quickpup. I think I must be doing something wrong in Fossapup.

Hi keniv

@keniv

There are several problems.

I have to make a news Pets that is compatible with Fossa64 and with QuicPup64.

But meanwhile the solution is this:

First the problem of the libraries that are in /usr/lib64 and do not recognize them CubicSDR, I created this script to move them.
And erase a duplicate Soapy files.

move_library.sh.tar
(10 KiB) Downloaded 60 times

Download - unpack it and execute it in Terminal from anywhere.

Code: Select all

./move_libray.sh

It will show mistakes but moves the libraries. With this, the problem of libraries should end.

Now the second problem

I had a old Fossapuppy64 version with all the programs and making the installation of all the * .pet SDR programs worked without problems.

If I execute from the terminal.

Code: Select all

apulse CubicSDR

It works without problems and with audio.

But then I installed it from a new version of pupsave_fossapuppy, to check installation from the beginning.

I install everything and do all the settings.

And when I'm going to run CubicSDR I have the following problem.

Code: Select all

root# apulse CubicSDR
CubicSDR: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librtaudio.so.6: undefined symbol: pa_strerror

Looking on the Internet the solution that they give is that you have to give it the address of the library to cubicsdr :

Code: Select all

 LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librtaudio.so.6 CubicSDR

This worked but now in a new installation it does not work, I'm not sure what it is failing.

Send me a report of the mistakes you have.

See you.

Hi keniv

I have to make new pets for FOSSA64, there is something installed in an old Pupsave that makes SDR programs work, but I still do not know what it is.

See you.

I think if you use an export statement to attach /usr/lib64 to the library paths just before execution of CubicSDR it might work instead of copying the libraries to /usr/lib with the script.

Hi rockedge,
I removed the system links I made manually to link the files that CubicSDR was calling for from /usr/lib64 to/usr/lib.

I think if you use an export statement to attach /usr/lib64 to the library paths just before execution of CubicSDR it might work instead of copying the libraries to /usr/lib with the script.

I'm not sure where the export statement should go. I tried this

Code: Select all

apulse export CubicSDR

in a terminal but got this

Code: Select all

root# apulse export CubicSDR
/usr/bin/apulse: line 5: exec: export: not found
root#

as the output so I guess that's not how I should use export.

@Anacleto
Hi Anacleto,

And erase a duplicate Soapy files.

I've downloaded your script but have not used it yet. I think I'll try @rockedge's solution first as it seems a lot simpler if it works. However, as you can see from above I obviously don't know how to use export.

Ken.

First thing to try is now re-configure the libraries. Open a terminal:

Code: Select all

ldconfig

there should be no output and just return to the prompt. Now retry apulse CubicSDR if it still is not working ->

Use export to append the lib paths, the line should look like this:

Code: Select all

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/your/custom/path/

So it would be these commands same terminal :

Code: Select all

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib64/
ldconfig
apulse CubicSDR

But this is temporary and only counts in that specific terminal.

Best thing to do is create this file /etc/ld.so.conf.d/randomLibs.conf and add the paths to the lib's

Code: Select all

/usr/lib64

save this file and in a terminal:

Code: Select all

ldconfig

now run apulse CubicSDR

Hi rockedge,

First thing to try is now re-configure the libraries.

.
I ran ldconfig in a terminal. took a little time but got no output as you said. Then ran apulse CubicSDR. Here is the output.

Code: Select all

root# ldconfig
root# apulse CubicSDR
CubicSDR: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/librtaudio.so.6: undefined symbol: pa_strerror

.
Then tried running

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib64/
ldconfig
apulse CubicSDR

Here is the output from that.

Code: Select all

root# export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib64/
root# ldconfig
root# apulse CubicSDR
CubicSDR: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/librtaudio.so.6: undefined symbol: pa_strerror

I noticed that this line

Code: Select all

CubicSDR: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/librtaudio.so.6: undefined symbol: pa_strerror

was the same as the one mentioned by @Anacleto earlier i.e.

Code: Select all

root# apulse CubicSDR
CubicSDR: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librtaudio.so.6: undefined symbol: pa_strerror

His solution was to run

Code: Select all

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librtaudio.so.6 CubicSDR

If I run

Code: Select all

ldconfig
apulse Cubic

I get the error but if I then run

Code: Select all

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librtaudio.so.6 CubicSDR

CubicSDR opens, my device is recognised, I can see the EM spectrum and the "waterfall" but there is no sound.

Best thing to do is create this file /etc/ld.so.conf.d/randomLibs.conf and add the paths to the lib's

As the above didn't work I didn't try this but I will if you think it might work I will. I hope the above is clear.

Regards,

Ken.

Hi keniv and rockedge.

CubicSDR opens, my device is recognised, I can see the EM spectrum and the "waterfall" but there is no sound.

The same problem that happens to me.

This happens to me with a new FOSSA64-SAVE file created new.

But I have a od fossa-pupsave with enough pets installed and I have no problem to run CubicSDR with audio, and the rtl_fm command with audio.

rtl_fm -M wbfm -f 105.9M | play -r 32k -t raw -e s -b 16 -c 1 -V1 -

There is some library that does not work properly, with distinct GLIC_ .

l have checked the library librtaudio.so.6 but it has the same compilation

Code: Select all

ldd -v librtaudio.so.6

I have been checking other things but I still have not found anything.

This weekend I will have more time and I can dedicate more time.

I probably have to make new PET files for FOSSA-PUPPY.

Thank you very much for your help rockedge.

See you.

Strangely rtl_fm -M wbfm -f 105.9M | play -r 32k -t raw -e s -b 16 -c 1 -V1 - does run for me with audio in Fossapup64 9.5.

I also tried a different order of commands in the hope it would start apulse before CubicSDR started.

Code: Select all

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib64/
ldconfig
apulse
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librtaudio.so.6 CubicSDR

Although CubicSDR opens and appears to be working in other respects there's no audio. I also get a errors about duplicate entries of files which I think have already been mentioned by @Anacleto Please see be below.

Code: Select all

Hi keniv.
I have had CubicSDR running with audio with these errors.
The script that I put in the previous post moves the libraries and erased the duplicate files that produce error but that do not affect the operation.
These errors do not affect the operation and even with audio.
I have pending modify soapy pet.
See you.

Hi keniv.

@keniv

Do you have GQRX working with audio at FOSSA-PUPPY64?

This is drive me mad, because I have installed all the SDR packets, and I can not execute:

Code: Select all

apulse CubicSDR

We give us the error that we already know :

CubicSDR: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librtaudio.so.6: undefined symbol: pa_strerror

And if I execute the command:

Code: Select all

apulse gqrx

Gqrxr works all correctly without any problem, with audio.

What makes it think that the problem is at pets cubicsdrxxx.pet.

I created news Pets RTLSDR and GNU-Radio for Fossa, I have to check if it would work at Quicpub64 and then I would change them.

I was checking many libraries and some programs, but I did not find any mistake.

My question is:

Do you have GQRX working with audio in fossa-puppy ?

Thank you keniv.

See you.

To answer your question yes I have got GQRX working with audio in Fossapup64 9.5 using apulse gqrx. CubicSDR seems to work in every respect but even using apulse there is no audio. Hope this helps.

Regards,

Ken.

Hi keniv.

@keniv

Thank you for answering.
I have the same problem.
After also running

Code: Select all

apulse CubicsDR

also happens to me:

Code: Select all

root# apulse gqrx
Controlport disabled
"Pulseaudio error: Connection refused"

PulseAudio is very unstable in Fossapuppy64, I tried to change libraries, modify parameters, but I took a long time attempted and although there have been moments that CubiSDR run with audio I do not know why it has been disconnected again.

At this moment I find myself compiling CubicSDR, but this takes great time.

And I do not know if I get it.

If I get some result, I'll show it to you.

keniv

I also see Controlport disabled when I run apulse gqrx in a terminal. I also see the other errors I mentioned in a previous post, however eventually gqrx opens with sound. I have found that I cannot always rely on gqrx opening without an error. I sometimes get a pop up box with a message about incorrect settings and asking if I would like to change them. If I click "yes" the settings box opens. I have tried both changing the setting then changing back to the original settings or not changing the settings at all then closing the box. Sometimes gqrx opens normally and sometimes I have to reboot and then it opens normally. It is not consistent. I have attached my settings. I had to manually edit device string to rtl=0 or it would not work with my device.

Regards,

Ken.

Hi keniv.

@keniv

I have compiled CubicSDR again at FOSSA64 and it has taken me long without any result.
This is like wanting to repair a Ferrari with pieces of a Lamborghini.
I already had many problems a long time ago when trying to operate a wireless device with pulseaudio and after a long time I did not get it.

Well we have QuickPub64 and at the moment all the programs are working Ok.

Ok See you.

Oddly enough I went back to using Quickpup today to run the SDR programs. I do find Quickpup unfamiliar to use but I assume I'll get used to it. Just one question on CubicSDR. I was trying to set a bookmark for BBC R4. When I type into the bookmark box the cursor moves along with each letter I type but no letters appear in the box. Can you tell me how to set a bookmark in CubicSDR. Sorry to hear about all the trouble you've had in trying to compile CubicSDR for Fossapup64 and trying to get it to use apulse but as you say the SDR programs seem to work better in Quickpup using pulse audio.

Regards,

Ken.

Hi keniv.

It is convenient to save the /root/.CubicSDR directory in a safe place if you change distribution or your PUPSAVE is broken.
