thank you for your work. I did a frugal install of devuanpup64-9.7.0, created a savefolder and rebooted.
All settings are preserved except the firewall, which is turned off after reboot.

I have a problems with booting this PUP's via its ISO file. It is bombing out as it appears to lock, then exit to GRUB2 prompt. I, instead, created a CD and booted it for evaluation.

Made startup changes in FirstRUN and restarted the desktop when offered. Clean desktop, responsive.

One issue is SAMBA. It is NOT starting. And several of the SAMBA (smbd) utilities are either missing or not working.
Missing: 'findsmb' ... Not working: 'smbpasswd root' ... Missing: 'smbclient'
Associated with this, I did notice that the "Network" menu folder was eliminated with its normal entries placed elsewhere in the Menu subsystem.

An indirect association with SAMBA client is during attempts to use the mount command to connect to another PUP running its SAMBA server:

I found a version "4.0.beta3-20210822". I had to make a DVD to boot, but EVERYTHING is operational, thus far.

One of the great things about the PUPs is its networking ability, OOTB. This latest brings the same ability to BOTH access and share with all LAN OSes of today, ready to run. These are example of operational networking commands.

Thank you very much for your interesting Devuanpup32.
The download went without a problem.
Burning the ISO to CD ended in a program-initiated early burn-break-up, requiring me to repeat the burning process once more.

Booting the newly burned CD a further unknown problem developed ending in a kernel-panic.
To get around this problem I managed to format a USB memory stick and copied the necessary files from the ISO to the USB flash drive and also employed Grub4Dos and watched with joy the renewed booting process, this time without a problem.

A special thank you for the in Devuan included Bluetooth. It just worked the first time, connecting to a very old Windows Lumia 95XL phone transferring a .html text-file.

A further nice feature is the option whether to save or not at the time of shutdown. Thank you for that.

Sound- and video quality is incredible. The best in any puppy yet.

Even so I am generally impressed with Devuanpup, I have also noticed a number of bugs, I believe :

Trying out Seamonkey-Composer I was not able to save the finished .html document to "my documents".

A further disappointment is the fact that Seamonkey is not able to open .html webpages. Using Palemoon instead, the webpage opend immediately, even with all formats in place.

Unfortunately I can also report that :

A document written with "Geany" could not be saved to "my documents". However, I managed to save it to a partition on my USB flash-drive.

Clicking the Pkg package manager the gui opens but also crashes Devuanpup.

The mouse gets stuck from time to time but becomes movable after a second or two.

Why are two folder named "Documents" and "my-documents" in "Home". Would one folder be not enough ? With "Documents" the preferred option.

I tried to access the internet using Frisbee without success.

I am not sure whether this could be an issue, but I am running Devuanpup32 on a 64bit laptop.

With the 8GB of RAM as you have, I would try the 64bit version. The DeVuanPUP64 firmware should match your PC and items should work, OOTB.

I can confirm you that the Devuanpup work well. I was initially a great fan of them but josejp did not continue to publish the Dpup line with XFCE4 so I did renounce to use them more.

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately I am unable to download theDeVuanPup64 version because of its size.
It's not a big problem because I am still happy and without any problems with Bionicpup32. Even on a 64bit laptop.

I am currently using Bionicpup32 and I am basically happy with it. I was intrigued by DeVuanPup because of the missing systemd connection. I was wondering what the difference would be to BionicPup.
At this stage I might just stick to BionicPup for a while.

Your distribution seems very interesting, but I do not get that the computer shuts down, nor does it create the PUPSAVE directory.

I downloaded the ISO file : devuanpup64_JWM-1-9.7.0.iso

I have tried boot two ways , isobooter and grup4, but the same problem.

I think it is a compilation problem with different types of microprocessors.

My laptop is:

Also are packages on devuanpup signed ? Fyi i have secure boot enabled on my pc and no usage of windows just linux (artix and devuan).

I've downloaded devuanpup 4 times now, in x86_64 and i386 version. Tried to run it from USB, using easydd, simple dd from command line, antix usb-maker and debian diskimage-writer.

It doesn't boot. The files are all on stick, and the stick is 100% okey - I know for sure.

Maybe there's a promlem in legacy boot? I don't like UEFI and GPT, and cannot use it, cos androidx86 is making problems with UEFI.

Is there something special I must do before putting devuanpup on USB???

The small problems:
(1) Even though jwm is the only window manager, initially I could not change the Wallpaper, being told something like puppy-pin was not active. Played with it a little and resolved that.
(2) SNS (Simple Network Setup) doesn't work. It just recycles the initial window. Frisbee works fine, except for the effect the 'Big Problem' has on it. I was going to see if the latest version of SNS might resolve it. But that will await resolution of the Big Problem.
The Big Problem:
Although I could create a SaveFolder on first shut-down, subsequent changes aren't Save, either by clicking the desktop-save icon or selecting Save at shutdown. Initially, after creating a SaveFolder on reboot I install a lot of stuff, periodically clicking the desktop Save icon. On reboot, none of my installations were present.
Figuring something I installed might have created a conflict, I deleted that SaveFolder and started from scratch. Added a Wallpaper to the new setup and made it the default. Shut-down again creating a SaveFolder. On reboot my Wallpaper was displayed. Added an icon to /usr/share/pixmaps which I set as the icon to use on the desktop Save. Executed a Save and shut-down, selecting NO Save. On reboot the Save icon had reverted and the icon wasn't in /usr/share/pixmaps.
Repeated the above, this time not using the Desktop Save, but Saving on shutdown. Still nothing was preserved.

P.S. Just tried by creating a SaveFile. Same results. On first shutdown either a SaveFile or SaveFolder can be created and whatever changes you've already made will be preserved and available on reboot. But no new changes are preserved.
Writing to a new SaveFolder is often quick. But writing to even a new SaveFile can take enough time that you'll notice a delay. There wasn't more than one second delay from the time the 'Saving to...' was displayed and the reboot took place. Hopes this helps in resolving the problem. It seems nothing is being written to either a SaveFile or a SaveFolder.

Update on SaveFile/Folder not being used. I setup the Lxde version and tried preserving changes (writing to a SaveFolder) after creating the SaveFolder on first shutdown. Same negative results. So, the inclusion of Synaptic didn't cause the problem.
I can also tell you that both versions use /usr/sbin/save2flash and /usr/sbin/snapmergepuppy files dated Oct 2, 2020.
I have not experienced this problem with any of your prior Puppys; nor do I experience the problem with Fossapup64 which uses /usr/sbin/save2flash and /usr/sbin/snapmergepuppy files dated June 23, 2020.
[Some newer puppies --e.g. voidpup and vanilladpup-- no longer use auf. So I can't tell if some change in those files may have caused the failure. Might try substituting the ones from the latest Slacko. But, I think it's something else and don't have sufficient knowledge of coding to figure out what those files may be trying to use but is absent].
Further Update: Substituted /usr/sbin/save2flash and /usr/sbin/snapmergepuppy from Imp64, both dated 11 Sep 2021. No change. I don't think its those files, themselves. Likely the absence of some script or binary which snapmergepuppy calls.

i have no problems with the savefolder. it always saves my settings. but i will try with the installer that comes with puppy
to see if what you are telling me happens.
