How to get started building your puppy using WoofCE - Some Basics

Post by perdido »

This info is a gem from puppy builder 666philb. Even I could figure it out!
The link brings you to the old puppy forum.

http://oldforum.puppylinux.com/viewtopi ... 6#p1022476
Then scroll down to post #113 for the instructions.

You will be suprised at how easy it is to make your own puppy.
If I can do it anyone can do it. Even You!

There's even a more simple way to do it by using wiak's makepup script.
I was using my hacked version of makepup to create my own build of BionicPup64. Hacked it, because I was in the need to do some modifications during the build process.

However: I definitely recommend using wiak's makepup script.

opposite to the link from Perdido, your link doesn't work (I know that it is not a link but only a colour marking... but as you probably refer to somewhat what is NOT on THIS site, perhaps in the old forum, perhaps in the wikka wikki, perhaps on some depository at sourceforge or other classic or not other site, your don't really help with that uncomplete intervention  ).

we all have to understand now that the 'search' function in THAT forum will never find somewhat in the old forum or other site also if it is a typical Puppy site (different from SliTaz: the main search function in SliTaz at this page is able to search in DIFFERENT SliTaz sites :thumbup2: )

kind regard

I kept makepup going for a number of years but I don't maintain it any longer so I expect it wouldn't work correctly now since distro numbering seen by the underlying woof-CE scripts change over time as new distros are added and makepup has to be maintained to keep up with any and all woof-CE changes which I simply can't afford the time to do any more. Of course, someone who is used to using makepup script can likely always hack it to work and in a way they prefer, but for most people I would imagine it is unusable now. I do remember someone talking about taking it over, perhaps it was rerwin(?), but that never happened - probably more trouble than it was worth unless it was actually integrated into woof-CE by someone who was a member of the woof-CE development team (and thus kept updated each time woof-CE had modified feature).
