Which drive (ed.) to put a SWAP file in fossapup64 9.6?[SOLVED]

Post by Sky Aisling »

Hi Puppers,

The machine has 4GB of RAM.
The distro is mounted frugally on a flash drive.

I'm thinking a 4GB of SWAP might enhance the performance? Perhaps not?
If a swap file might make Fossapup a bit snazzier, then which drive (ed) is best suited for a swap file?
Note: The Hard Drive (sda2) has 5GB of un-allocated space at the head of the cylinder.
The following space on the Hard Drive is personal data.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
Sky

The Hard Drive (sda2) has 5GB of un-allocated space at the head of the cylinder.

If this is true and the drive is only used for storage.

Just to fully understand.

This hard drive only has one partition on it and it is identified as sda2?

Swap on the hard drive will work much faster than on a USB drive.

I would turn that un-allocated space into a swap partition.

It is there, so use it.

Truthfully, with 4GB of RAM, unless you do some really heavy stuff, that is going to use a lot of RAM.
Swap will never get used with Puppy Linux.
4GB RAM is more than enough for normal operations.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be older.
This is not what I expected :o

Thank you, @bigpup

So, the answer is... "if it ain't broke, then don't fix it!". OK, you talked me into it. :)

PS - yes, the HD has only personal data files on it.
