My problem :

I receive faxes correctly :

But I can't record them.
Indeed, in the window where we can see the signal, there is a "Cancel" button.
When I click on it, Hamfax stops (freeze), I no longer have access to the main window menu and the images are lost.

There is no error message.

Does anyone have an idea to solve this problem?

Have you tried running hamfax from the terminal to see if it shows any errors.
Where did you get your packages.

I tried the debs from buster and it seems to work ok.
Ive only used the test file but I could cancel and it stayed working.
I can save images.

Today (15/05/22), I have downloaded the same files as you.
Hash controls OK.
Decoding the image from the .au file OK, cancel button OK, access to menus OK.
But, when I want to decode from a sound device, if I press the "cancel" button, hamfax freezes.

I'll look for another apps.

Is Hamfax in the Debian "testing" (Bookworm) repository?

If so, try the new Easy Bookworm:

Click on "pkgget" and install hamfax and its deps.

However, you will probably need to update the package database first, as the online repository is in a state of flux.
In the package manager configuration, click "Update" button, and update only the Debian "main", "contrib" and "nonfree" repos, and decline the "updates".

Hamfax isn't in Bookworm repository, but qsstv is in.
qsstv allows you to receive faxes from a shortwave receiver, such as hamfax.
And, it allows to receive slow-scan TV shows (sstv).
