./dax/dax.ko not found

Post by amarnath »

Barry, I love your work. I work with linux distros (other than Puppy or EasyOS, although they fascinate me). EasyOS worked fine with USB, but recently I have encountered the loop problem. EasyOS would not start with Ventoy. It says file '/lib/modules/5.15.16/kernel/drivers/dax/dax.ko not found and kernel goes into panic. I have a loop on the USB from a previous botched attempt to install EasyOS (with Mx Live USB Maker). What should I do now? Request Puppy gurus to advise me. :?

I had to search to find out what 'dax.ko' is:

https://www.kernelconfig.io/config_fs_dax

It looks like Ventoy's fault, mounting a filesystem with "-o dax" even if the kernel doesn't support it.

Perhaps go to the Ventoy project pages and search for further info.

Note, there have been other reports of EasyOS working with Ventoy.

I am working w/ Easy 3.4.5 & 3.4.7 and Ventoy 1.051 upped to 1.0.73. The problem was presented in the Ventoy forum https://forums.ventoy.net/showthread.ph ... sy#pid5452 Problem with EasyOS -- and responded to by a Ventoy admin

This CI release should have fixed it.

https://github.com/ventoy/Ventoy/action ... 2257350810
https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_github_ci.html

... but I can't figure out how to dl the Ci. I can't seem to find the kind of packaging I'm accustomed to for 'proper' releases which are available up to 1.0.74 which is what the OP above was using. So, the upshot is that Ventoy is aware and allegedly has a fix but it isn't yet in the form of a release I recognize.

Instructions say one has to be reg'd at github to access it; I've tried unlogged and reg'd and logged in both and remain unable to access something I recognize. Typically I use the linux web system to install Ventoy; sudo sh VentoyWeb.sh

I should have also posted this link to the Ventoy CI 760:

I can't figure out how to dl the Ci.

I got this CI v. done. As advised in Ventoy instructions to get the CI: https://www.ventoy.net/en/doc_github_ci.html About Github CI release

I found that in the logged in condition at git hub that I was able to find the expected packaging. The CI that claimed to solve the Easy OS problem was 760; Ventoy page advised taking the newest CI which was 776. I used the linux web approach and updated my Ventoy to 05080402 (the date numbering system of CIs).

Then I attempted to boot Easy but was again unsuccessful on both 3.4.5 and 3.4.7 but for a different reason. The OP /dax/da.ko problem did not occur; was fixed, which is why I changed the subject.

However, this is the new problem for me:

One-time only operation, creating a snapshot of EasyOS
This will allow future follback with the Easy Version Control Manager
Populating: /mnt/ventoy2/easyos/releases/easy-3.4.7
initrd vmlinux easy.sfs cp: write error: No space left on device
This copy failed:
cp /mnt/ventoy1/easy.sfs /mnt/ventoy2/easyos/sfs/easyos/oe/dunfell/easy_3.4.7_amd64.sfs
It is possible that the drive is failing.
Attempting to copy again...
cp: write error: No space left on device

I cleared out some space on the Ventoy USB so that 2-3G of space was left but the problem persisted.
