SM is working smoothly for me.

I think that you might have posted before, but what is your video hardware? GPU?

On my Lenovo ideacentre PC, Intel i3-8100 CPU. GPU:

"VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 8th Gen Core Processor Gaussian Mixture Model"

Xorg is using the modesetting driver.

Quick feedback on Dunfell-2.8.4 US version

SeaMonkey 2.53.8 - 20210702095134 looks good on my side.

Using a BIOS box 2.60GHz, 2GB, Intel G41 1920x1080 and Gigabit Ethernet RTL8111
Boot media is a slow USB 3.0 stick.

The first problem I was running into was the 'geo tracker' script.

Second problem - as soon as you download audio files the 'Linux system'
becomes overloaded.

I would put the blame on https://ici.radio-canada.ca/; beside the audio
problem everything else works fine.

The site seems ok for me also.

The reason I asked about the GPU, is SM and FF default to automatically using video hardware acceleration, if available. I did read somewhere that sometimes this can cause trouble. There is a way to turn it off, can't recall how.

Downloaded Easy OS, and burned it to a USB using Etcher.

Boot process started normally, enter for no password, a few more lines.

Then suddenly my monitor turns off, stays off, and after waiting for awhile I hard powered down my computer. What's happening?

Hundido,

Barry has a tutorial about how to install to a USB
https://easyos.org/install/how-to-write ... drive.html

From your slacko or fossa usb, you might try try the command line method posted just above the Balena link, or the easydd utility mentioned just below it. I am not sure where, but there was a comment about Balena problems in the old forum or maybe on Barrys Blog. You will need a dedicated USB stick for these methods just as Balena does. A frugal install may also be possible along side your slacko or fossa install.

After reading through viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3227, it could well be your monitor setup.

Here is a head scratcher for you. The redshift utility in EasyOs seems to work well for most, but has been problematic for some including myself. It was not until I disabled the one in Easy, and started using the one you found in the above mentioned thread that I have the functionality I am looking for In EasyOs.

Hope you can least get to the desktop though....

Is that the right information on what my computer is? Is there anything that would be useful that I missed?

I reset the resolution/dimensions to be more comfortable for my vision that the 1920xwhatever it was.

@williwaw , easy OS was actually the first distro I ever installed as I began the hobby of distro hopping. It worked on an old Lenovo, and a lot of other distros didn't. I was glad I tried it first because having such an easy success hooked me.

I tried two different images last week and this week. It keeps doing that. I used balena. I've installed easy on the hard drive of two other older computers, so I'm pretty sure it's something with my computer not playing nice with it somehow.

The first time I had this problem, I thought, I'll just go with what works.

And then I learned BarryK was compiling packages from source through OE in Dunfells, and I thought, that's so cool. I have to figure this out.

seems like you have been having your share of issues with the new computer, but just eliminating possible sources of error one by one....

Does your computer work well otherwise with most distros? the newer monitor being the only trouble?

@williwaw Kubuntu worked great until it didn't. All Puppies I've tried have worked great except for the redshift in all but Slacko64-8.2.1, and the bugs in 8.2.1, Redshift is such an important feature for my eyes, it's a make or break issue for me.

A friend almost convinced me to install mint, but its redshift was simplified and I couldn't figure out how to turn it to always on. Deal breaker.

The monitor works great, too, unless it's the reason redshift won't work.

I don't know why easy OS partially boots, and then the monitor turns off, the tower stays on, and I can't make anything happen except hard powering off the computer.

turns off? not just goes black, but acts like it is smarter than us and just shuts down. lol maybe thats a good thing so you dont break it.

So I have a clue:

I decided to try Tinycore, and used the Fedora computer and etcher to burn the iso image to one of my usbs. All of the desktops boot except JWM, which behaves in the exact same way as easy os.

I looked up what monitor I got. It's a

ASUS VA27EHE 27” Eye Care Monitor Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS 75Hz Adaptive-Sync HDMI D-Sub Frameless

It's brand new, delivered in May. It was a splurge for my vision, and has a built in warm color temperature that helps, but not as much as redshift.

@williwaw , yeah, I know the tower is on because I can see the fan spinning. So the fan keeps spinning, and the monitor turns itself off, and then knowing I'm stuck there, I just hard power off the computer and boot back into slacko 8.2.1
