Boot from ntfs

Hi,
I have extracted fossapup to c drive {c:/puppy} alongside win10. I have installed grub2win. Can i add entry to grub to boot puppy from its current location. I have a low end netbook 32gb ssd with 2gb ram. I am currently using it from usb but performance is very poor so i want to boot from hdd.

I am assuming Windows 10 is staying installed on this computer and you want to be given the choice to boot Windows or Fossapup64?

Yes there is probably a menu entry that could be made for Grub2win.

However, the easy way to go is use and install this version of Grub2 boot loader made to work with Puppy Linux installs.

This is Linux software, so it will have to be run in a Linux OS.
I assume you have Fossapup64 on a USB install you can use to boot the computer using it to run Grub2config.

There is another installer made to do exactly what you want.

Use the Lick installer

Lick is a windows exec file you download into Windows, and left click on to run in Windows.
It installs any Puppy Linux OS as a frugal install, alongside Windows, and makes a boot menu entry to boot it.
Computer boots and you get to chose what operating system to boot.

When using Lick.
Not sure what Grub2win did to the normal Windows boot loader.
But you could delete the install of Fossapup64 you did to the C drive or maybe keep it.

How is the performance poor?

You could be using the wrong boot menu entry to boot Fossapup64.

I'd never heard of grub2win before reading this thread but looked at its sourceforge site since. Seems excellent. Looks like it should be easy to boot a pup with it if you have it installed and basically working. You should just need to add the appropriate grub.cfg stanza for Puppy to wherever grub4win docs advises to put new entries. Someone like bigpup should be able to provide you suitable stanza once he knows what folder you installed pup to and its partition device name or uuid descriptor. I wouldn't myself bother trying a different grub2 if you already have that one basically working. I see it can boot the likes of Manjaro so should be fine for a Pup.
