PupSave folder grown HUGE with duplicate files

Post by Subito Piano »

Hmm -- a strange one here, my Puppy install is choking my SSD.

I loaded about 40GB worth of files onto a 170GB ext4 partition, then installed FossaPup into this partition inside a folder named PuppyLinux. I've added quite little since the install, but my Puppy Folder has swelled to 129GB, filling up my hard drive! I suspected that my original files have been duplicated inside -- well, a quick search revealed they weren't duplicated, they were "triplicated" -- !! To wit --

The file "Youth_Leadership_notes_NOAH.odt" is found in its original location (top line) plus two more locations:

  • /usr/local/pschedule/test/Youth Leaders of Tomorrow/Youth_Leadership_notes_NOAH.odt

  • /initrd/mnt/dev_save/Mr_D/NCA/Youth Leaders of Tomorrow/Youth_Leadership_notes_NOAH.odt

  • /initrd/mnt/dev_save/Mr_D/PuppyLinux/fossapup64save-Mr_D/usr/local/pschedule/test/Youth Leaders of Tomorrow/Youth_Leadership_notes_NOAH.odt

So -- why is this happening? I can make a backup and delete the duplicates, but IDK if they will return. Ugh.

Thanks!!

Youth_Leadership_Permission_Form.odt

is a different file to

Youth_Leadership_notes_NOAH.odt

so its only dup;icated which is what you suspected isnt it?

On the size of your pupsave file I have noticed my browser ,in my case Opera, builds huge files of data on your disk and needs to be just deleted in whole from time to time . I just delete it and opera makes a new one again automatically . Use Gdmap in the manu to explore and see what the buildup is.

The Australian State Governments have all enacted laws to steal your assets on your death. All legal paperwork is binned and all assets seized on one disgruntled child's complaint.Move them well before you die or go into a home.

Are you running some program that makes these files?
If yes.
It may be doing this.

Good catch, April -- my typo, I fixed it in the first post.

I'm getting triplicates of EVERYTHING (well, so it appears). I note that it has to do with pschedule -- there are two files duplicated in /pschedule/test/ -- or in subfolders of the same. I'm thinking, as you mentioned (Bigpup) that perhaps somehow testing pschedule (cron) made copies of those files. Note that I used pschedule to run rsync. I believe I tested it one time.

Anyway, I'm out this evening, so before I go I'll start a backup of those /pschedule/test/ folders (though I highly doubt I need to), then delete them from my drive and watch what happens the next couple days. Hmm....

Thanks - - I'll post back.

So I deleted something like 120GB of duplicates under /mnt/(drive name). I noticed that /mnt/sda5, /mnt/sdb1, etc., had complete copies of everything in sda5, sdb1, etc. How they got there, IDK. We'll see if they grow back...
