cannot edit grub.cfg (SOLVED)

Post by gychang »

Am running FP64 from a USB stick on UEFI desktop PC. I like to change the time from default 10 to 2 sec to boot faster. I get an error when I try to edit the grub.cfg file on the USB stick, it is read-only. when I try chmod +w grub.cfg still get the same error.
with ls -l command shows: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1.6K Sep 17 2020 grub.cfg

Is there a way to edit the file to shorten the boot time in FP64?

Is this because you wrote the Fossapup ISO onto the flash drive with a dd operation?

using dd probably made the format iso9660.
This is a read only format.

Do you have another USB, you could use the installer programs in Fossapup64, to do an install to it?
You can first partition and format the USB, to a writable format, using the Gparted program in Fossapup64.
USB flash drives come already formatted to fat32, so that works.
If you want to use a save folder and not a save file.
The format needs to be a Linux format (ext2, 3, 4 or even f2fs)

you need to understand, that time delay setting is there, for a good reason.
If the default boot menu entry will not boot.
That time delay, gives you time to select one of the other menu boot entries.
Those do give you ability, to still boot and fix something, that is not working, in normal boot.

I suggest do not set the delay time less than 5.

You can always get past the delay, by pressing enter, as soon as you see the boot menu.

Try this solution to avoid those kinds of errors. You'll boot the FossaPUP64 via its ISO file and have ALL the same abilities you'd expect from any PUP. ..including what you've asked for. This approach boots modern WoofCE PUPs (aka FossaPUP64. an others) along with the DOG ISO files you find on the forum.

Any issues, post there and expect useful fast help. Several members understand this ability and can help there.

Here is another solution which will make your USB usable as well via any UEFI PC as well as and non-secure-boot (BIOS) approach. Any issue with this approach, post there and expect timely help, too.

These approaches affords ALL of the PUP benefits you are use to, as well as, allowing simple ability to boot any other modern WoofCE PUP ISO files of your choice with none of the issues you've encountered and several other issues users run into, ever again.
