How to delete win7 partition on dual boot Toshiba notebook?

Post by Old Dog »

I've decided to run Puppy Linux exclusively on our 2010 Toshiba NB255 netbook. Which means good-bye to the win7 partition. Is there a simple method to do this like windows disk manager? Thank you.

you will be best served to reformat the disk prior to installing puppy to it with a linux tool.
but........
the best way to have the linux tools you need, is to be booted from a puppy USB. There are 2 ways to install to a USB, you can try out your puppy of choice as a live install, or do a frugal install or frugally install multiple puppies. (two distinctly different installation methods, where live does not let you save data, and frugal has data persistence)

once you have a usb with a puppy version that works well with your toshiba for what you want to do, you can reformat your hardrive. Most likely you will want to be able to save data, so a frugal install on your HD could be in order. When you reformat and partition your HD (prior to installing puppy on the HD), w7 will disappear.

When you provide the below info.
We can give specific information of using the programs in Puppy to do what you want to do.

Do you have a Puppy version on a CD or USB drive you can boot the computer with?
Need to use programs in Puppy to do everything needed.
What specific version of Puppy?
Is that the Puppy version you want installed on the internal drive?

How did you install Puppy to the internal drive, as it now is, alongside Windows 7?
Is Puppy a frugal install and you have made and use a save file/folder?
Do you want to keep the save or start over fresh?
If you have a save you want to still use.
Make a copy of it and place it on a drive other than the computer internal one.
Add it back into the frugal install, when you get it all setup on the internal drive.

To really completely delete and remove Windows 7.
You need to delete all partitions on the internal drive.
Partition and format.
Then do a frugal install of Puppy.
Install a boot loader to boot it.

The things you do not tell us, are usually the clue to fixing the problem.

This is not what I expected :o
