You'll need WINE to run .exe files.

E.g.

Code: Select all

wine PathToTheEXE

You need to install Wine.
Quickpet->Useful->wine

Do you know how to setup and use wine to run Windows programs?

no. no ideas. unsure of what's normally in a win path. been a long time.

PATH=mnt/home/opel/Holden/Opel.iso
setup.exe is in Ooel.iso. iso not burnd to storage. Opel.iso is x-ms compat. so should install. if Opel.iso changed to Opel, will that alter mounting and running of files, as currently won't mount. RO system?

edit.
quickpet not exist.
installed playonlinux with dependencies - none missing.
wine/WINE not exist.iso burned to thumbdrive, not bootable, can't start autorun.exe --x-ms compat.
should i rename to autorun and make executable?

You posted in the Fossapup64 9.5 section of the forum.
It has Quickpet.

So what version of Puppy are you using?

Your real problem is getting Playonlinux working?

Forget about Wine.
Playonlinux is using wine.
Wine is in it.

first we need to know what version of Puppy you using?

Ok, we are going in circles.

Wine is a way to run Windows based programs in Linux.

Playonlinux is a completely different way to do it.

Only install one.

Wine will probably work better in Puppy Linux.

For Wine, it is more than just installing it.
There is a setup to get it working.
It would be better to get the Wine provided by Quickpet.
It does some of this during the install.

You need to setup Wine by running

Code: Select all

winecfg

in a terminal.
This is what sets up the WINE 'virtual, real-time' Windows environment. You can't do anything until the hidden ~/.wine directory has been created. You'll need to install Mono & Gecko during this process; just 'OK' it when you're asked, and let it do it's thing.
Also under drives, select auto select, to setup all the drive locations.
What version of Windows, Wine is going to emulate, you can change. That can affect, how it works, for the Windows programs, you are trying to run.
Check all the other settings in winecfg, to see if they look OK.

You will also need to load the fossapup 32bit compatibility sfs
Quickpet can do that.

Now try to run the Windows program.
Usually after setting up Wine.
exe Windows programs are recognized, to run them using Wine.

Fossapup64-9.5 works well for me.
I have used wine64-5.5_v4.1.pet as well as wine64-6.12_v4.1.pet out of the 'version2013' repo.
Pale Moon 32/64-bit as well as Seamonkey 32/64-bit works great.
