Printers quit working in BionicPup64

I am running BionicPup64 with cups version 2.2.7, and have been for a couple months with no printing problems. I have made no recent changes to my printer setup. I had several printers installed.

Last evening, I tried to print a PDf, and only two printer showed up "Cups-PDF and HL-5470DW (server default). I sent the print job to the HL-5470DW. I received no error messages, but the job never printed.

I used my browser (Firefox 80.0.1) to go to localhost:631. When I clicked on "Jobs", I received the message "INTERNAL SERVER ERROR". I then tried the other menu items, and I received the same message. I have checked the applicable configuration files, and everything appears to be correct.

I also tried rebooting the computer and restarting cupsd. According to the cups errorlog it restarted correctly. I then tried again to print the pdf. It did not print and no entry was added to the errorlog. However, the accesslog says the job was successfully sent to the printer.

I can successfully print to the same printer from other computers on the network.

Do I need to uninstall/reinstall cups, or is there another solution?

Thank you for trying to help, but that one printer is not the main problem. The problem is that my other printers disappeared, the remaining printer does not print, and, I can't access any of the cups administrative pages.

I decided to try reinstalling cups. All that seems to have done is change the error message from "INTERNAL SERVER ERROR" to "NOT FOUND". At this point my next option is to reinstall the OS.

You reinstalled Cups?
Exactly how did you do that?

Did you try to re-setup the printers in Cups?

Run the command: ls -l /initrd.

Is the folder pup_rw still owned by root?

This is an old problem and is probably not the fault of CUPS. It usually occurs when some malformed PET or SFS package has altered the Puppy ownership/permissions system. Phil's solution will sometimes fix it, but not necessarily.

Puppy is installed frugal on a 1TB hard drive.

I used the "Remove Builtin Packages" option from the menu then re-installed CUPS using the PPM. Obviously this did not work as I had hoped.

I have now done a reinstall of BionicPupl then [carefully] moved personal files over from the old save folder to the new install, Everything is now working properly, This time I was smarter; as soon as I had everything working the way I wanted, I backed up the save folder to another drive.
