Re: Problem installing Libreoffice sfs, F96-CE

I wonder if it's related to the xz compression of those two LibreOffice sfs? The Kdenlive sfs, which installed okay isn't an xz type (I believe).

Re: My most used Wine program

I have been using a version of Photofiltre since 2006. Excellent for image and photo editing and creation. Easy to use and full featured and runs well with WINE. I remember PhotoFiltre! I liked it. So I just found an old version (7 from 2016, I believe) online and have installed that. I really like...

Re: My most used Wine program

Well it'll start up into the initial welcome and then you go to the theme selection screens, but once you've selected a theme, and then gone on to open the main program, that's when the crash happens (I mean if it does). But maybe you're right and your version of Wine has that worked out. If so, nice!

BTW, I've seen you mention Sketchup on several occasions, so I tracked down a 7-series build from OldVersions.com - this is 7.0.10247 - and have taken a quick look at it. Looks interesting! I'll investigate further during the coming weeks, as & when I get a bit more free time... Mike. :D Mike G...

Re: My most used Wine program

Playing around with Photoscape a little, Mike. I like what I see so far. My go-to photo editor is plain MTPaint for basic resizing photos, filetype change, cropping, adjusting brightness or contrast, or adding lines or text. That represents about 90% of my everyday photo-editor usage. It's fast and ...

Re: My most used Wine program

MIke, I'll have to try that one. Which HP laptop do you have now? I just got my first of that brand, and like you, it's a giant step up, though I, like you, also always intended it to be a Puppy machine, with a few exceptions for special programs. I see nothing wrong with a portable including wine f...

Re: Installation instruction for ClamTk

As a newcomer of Puppy Linux I installed ClamTk from Puppy Package Manager, but it didn't work. In Puppy Linux discussion forum I only found a very old discussion (old forum), which didn't help. Now I've worked out through some readings in Internet and own tries a way, getting ClamTk to do its job....

My most used Wine program

I have Wine installed for a few Win programs I can't do without (the old free Google SketchUp 7 and 8 for example, not Trimble's later versions). BUT... I also have one program I could probably do without via Linux apps, except that it just does what it does better than any other I have tried. It is...

Re: Puppy won't boot after creating first puppy save

If the USB drive isn't quite responding fast enough to whatever timing delay the BIOS has on first access or autodetection, then BIOS may sometimes recognize its existence and others times not. By slowing down the process manually and forcing boot to USB, that autodetection is bypassed. This doesn't...

Hahaha, Wizard!

Oh, man I bought a three pack of those ONN drives. What a mistake!!! I mean I can use a chisel on stone and record more characters per hour than those things can absorb. I think they are actually filled with cotton.

Why I like Seamonkey and how I use it

I like Seamonkey. I admit it. I know it's not the latest style, prettiest, or even most versatile browser. It's in fact ancient, dating back to Netscape. There's nothing flashy about it. Nevertheless........ The first thing I do when trying out a new Puppy, and after getting connected, is to type in...

Re: Puppy won't boot after creating first puppy save

Aged USB port contact issues and timing issues for some slow USB thumbdrives can cause erratic behavior on booting. One evidence I hear in the above is that you did successfully boot to savefile once, but couldn't repeat it afterwards. That to me indicates an intermittent issue, and intermittent iss...

Re: Another Puppy Review / Intro

I have a new laptop, all Intel standard stuff aboard (graphics, wifi). S-15 is no better than Fossapup in its lack of usability on a so called modern machine. At startup it lacks wifi card and sound card support, and if I was a new user experimenting with linux I'd probably stop there and go back to...

Easier but not guaranteed, test Easy 5.7 with the kernel (and modules) from easyvoid I thought I'd give this a try, but ran into amateur problems. First try was using my present F96-CE installation to mount the EasyOS .img file using williwaw' mount-img script. But though it mounted both EasyOS and...

FAT32 won't handle ANY single file larger than 4gb. Not just Puppy savefiles. Large video files, virtual machines, etc. over 4gb can not be saved on FAT32. Most modern puppies can create larger savefiles than 4 gb on linux ext filesystems. Some of the older puppies did not recommend going above 2gb ...

Re: X won't start in new Laptop (Intel Iris XE integrated grapics) Kirkstone64 5.7

Just out of curiosity, Bigpup, I just tried stick installs of the old 5.x kernel crowd: Bionic64, Fossa64 9.5, and they both failed much earlier in the boot process (the errors I saw were that they couldn't find the UUID partition of the stick). EasyOS Kirkstone64 didn't have that problem and nearly...

Hi bigpup, thanks, I went further and re-downloaded, checked, and reinstalled on a new thumbdrive. No save, totally fresh. Nope.
