Re: Pseudo Full Install (testing)
Does it do it the other way round? i.e. Re-compress when so desired (for the remastering effect)? It appears so. I didn't do extensive test. Just installed dummy/test app That would be very handy in KL too. I'll add same commandline option to the FR initrd later. Actually should work via external s...

Re: KLV To-Do List
Aside from that all important save2flash, I think there are various other 'utility apps' being used in different KL distro releases aren't there? For example, some have samba, others grub2config and I'm sure there are several other such that may be in Airedale or Hyperland but I haven't as yet inclu...

No time here to test this, but good idea to automate the PFI creation. Does it do it the other way round? i.e. Re-compress when so desired (for the remastering effect)?

I have no idea if the recently discovered xz backdoor (posted about elsewhere on the forum https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=115556#p115556) effects 32bit distro builds, but it does seem problematic in recent Ubuntu according to: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/whats-happening-in-noble-rep...

Re: Pseudo Full Install (testing)
Good to hear you got that all going Fred. I was a bit surprised you needed to create a pfull directory for the uncompressed read/write filesystem though, but though it had crossed my mind that PFI should be relatively easy to use with DebianDogs I never tried it. Because I'm 'on the move - house-wis...

oh fellow on the Bodhi board had suggested couple desktop menu entries to make starting and stopping Waydroid easier. They do. Probably a slicker way but this works and fairly convenient. [Desktop Entry] Type=Application Name=WaydroidSTART Exec=sh -c "weston --width=1280 --height=665 -Swayland...

Re: build y own Puppy Linux like distro step by step
Always interesting to have step to step building tutorials of other distros than those followed otherwise on this forum. That provides new ideas and mechanisms we can, if useful, copy and improve in our own productions. So let's hope the promised offering is as good and less feeble, in terms of save...

I have nothing against any and all users supplementing what becomes standa...

I don't know... I'm now on the big move so maybe just thinking 'ambitiously'... but... I'm tempted to work on a build of Puppy - similar to traditional, but different. Not using FirstRib initrd, so not KL-approach, but using Puppy system scripts with a new design of initrd that learns a lot from FR....

Most everything seems complicated (sometimes to the point of seeming impossible) if you are not used to doing it. The opposite is also usually true. Nowadays, in some but not all areas of Linux maintenance, I thankfully often now find it really easy (Linux is relatively consistent in what it expects...

Cortile sounds great for use with Xfce. Personally, I really wish Xfce would move to full Wayland support, but despite or perhaps because of their 'roadmap' I rather doubt that will happen in any near future. labwc may be best option in between times. I take it cortile is just for X? From an actual ...

Re: HP CEO says they brick printers that use non -HP ink because of hackers
What you think of laser printers instead of ink printers ? Clearly, I'd say, the text printing quality is better with laser printers, but not so good for photos/images. Also, toner dust is extremely fine and bad for the lungs!!! I wouldn't want to sit in a less than well-ventilated room when a lase...

I know that this can easily be solved by changing the boot parameter to: w_bootfrom=LABEL=a2=/mnt/sda2/klv8 w_bootfrom=UUID=xxxxxxx=/mnt/sda2/klv8 Regarding the above two lines... almost correct, but should be this: w_bootfrom=LABEL=a2=/klv8 w_bootfrom=UUID=xxxxxxx=/klv8 You don't refer to the part...

I was trying to put FirstRib init file (extracted from KLV-Airedale-sr8's initrd) in Debian 11 kernel (5.10.0-8-amd64) initrd, to boot my debian 11 based sfs, only to find that the Debian11 kernel/initrd cannot mount ntfs (since my sfs frugal system is located in an ntfs drive).
