Re: Installing and setting up Dropbox

You can install the different packages provided. If they do not work, check for error messages and if informs you of missing files. Then use the apropriate package manager to install the applications and try again. There are different Puppy builds for Ubuntu and Debian for x64 and x32. A description...

Re: FrugalPup v41, very flexible Puppy frugal installer, supporting i18n

@gyrog

Is it possible to change the partition types that are created by Stickpup?

As modern Usb storage devices use exFAT, could this be used instead of FAT32?

This I would hope would allow 'Pupsave files' to be created beyond their current 4gb limit.

Re: Distributed Computing on LAN

@p310don

Do you have a dedicated graphics card that could offload the video encoding?

This would take the pressure off from your cpu.

Also, it will depend on the codec that you are using.

Re: The December Linux Pro Magazine "Puppy" article.....available for download

If everyone agrees that this is a good and positive article on Puppy Linux.

Could it be included in the Wikipedia entry under the section 'Reception' ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puppy_Linux

It could also include that their DVD offering did include the OS too.

Re: Unable to copy/paste in Fossapup terminal

Using a two button mouse with a wheel to copy and paste into terminal ie URXVT

Copy the text from 'Left to Right' and then in terminal click the wheel button.

This works for me in Fossapup64 and JammyPup.

@mikewalsh

Thanks for sharing this :thumbup:

I did make a post earlier on the forum to see if it was possible to include this option when using 'Stickpup Usb Installer'.

This would be beneficial to users as you have realised it overcomes the 4GB limit.

I would use a Linux VPS hosting service and install Nextcloud.

You can install/use Nextcloud applications eg Only Office for general tasks and potentially use Tables for your database requirements.

Each offering of Puppy may use a different Glibc.

https://abi-laboratory.pro/?view=timeline&l=glibc

So, it helps to point out to members which OS you compiled/built your application.

Re: Some questions regarding .pets and .sfs files

FloraMae For me the difference between Pet and SFS installations is simply down to security, RAM requirements and deciding between day to day use/occasional use. (BTW I am using a small Pupsave file on a flash drive) A SFS browser can be used for online banking. https://i.ibb.co/xmFFRLS/Screenshot....

We could just leave it to ChatGPT :lol:

@mikeslr I did not follow/understand the binary identity comment.

The OSes you list are all Ubuntu based. The desktop environment differentiates them.

I have missed the point.

Re: DistroWatch needs a newer Puppy version listed for Puppy Linux!!!!!

@mikeslr

Are all builds of PuppyLinux truly 100% binary compatible with their hosts?

As some applications require systemd, this is not included.

Also "full system updates" are not encouraged as they may break the OS.

4b refers to Aufs enabled kernels (?)

Good work :thumbup:

Thanks for this .......... is this just a 'clean' version just made with the default Devx?

I noticed that Automake, AutoConf, Git, Bison etc were older versions than the one's contained in my personal Devx.

I have always flashed devices outside of the OS.

Manufacturer's will provide tools that allow you do this as well as making a backup of the existing firmware.

Can you not boot up and do this from within the BIOS settings itself?
