Search through the frisbee code and find the line where wpa_supplicant is called. Add the option "-D wext".

Re: Is there an easy way to transfer files from PC A to PC B on the same network?

@wizard: Here is my gut instinct about this situation. Any file transfer that involves intermediate storage on a USB drive won't be much more efficient than the original procedure, especially with large files.

Re: Is there an easy way to transfer files from PC A to PC B on the same network?

I interpret the last paragraph as my original method. Would you concur? Yes, where the shared partition was your USB drive. I suspect that problems with Windows and Linux occur when files do not get cleanly copied into the NTFS partition and/or when the NTFS does not get cleanly unmounted. The pote...

Re: Technical Differences in Printing Labels - LibreOffice vs PDF

The two CUPS filters involved here - imagetoraster and rastertolabel - are doing their jobs, especially converting a colour PNG into mono so the thermal printer can handle it. There is some subtle difference with how the CUPS in Fatdog handles PDFs internally that is specific to this printer. Maybe ...

Re: Toshiba Tecra M3 laptop - How to use Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915?

Excellent. I guess that the maintainers of the old ipw2200 driver didn't want to bother upgrading it from the original (and now deprecated) wext wireless protocol to the modern nl80211 protocol. But as long as your wifi connection software is backwards compatible, you're OK. This is the only driver ...

In the PWF config, can I assume that you are setting INTERFACE=eth1

Try setting DRIVER=wext

Did you reboot after installing the firmware package?

With the caveat that, at the moment, I need a 1 2 3 step approach, also the Win XP MUST be isolated from the internet . With your online Puppy machine having an open share to the XP machine, you have already violated that requirement. Could you give a précis for the above, thanks. I did last Saturd...

Re: Technical Differences in Printing Labels - LibreOffice vs PDF

It occurs to me that you could now print anything on a 4x6 thermal label by putting the content in an 800x1200 pixel mono PNG and sending it directly to the printer with CUPS-lpr.

Or you could code the content in ZPL and print it with "-o raw".

Re: Is there an easy way to transfer files from PC A to PC B on the same network?

As the author of YASSM, I'd like to make some comments. There is a difference between "file sharing" and "file transferring" and this project is clearly about the latter. File sharing apps are capable of file transfers but they may not be the best solution. Consider what happened...

Re: How to move Grub2 to a different partition AND update within Puppy.

See here #9 . The idea is to put a single permanent entry in your main Debian GRUB menu that uses the "configfile" command to run another GRUB menu with multiple Puppy entries. So you can modify the Puppy menu without having to change the main menu. If your Puppies are still using the old ...

Re: Technical Differences in Printing Labels - LibreOffice vs PDF

Excellent. I had forgotten that pdftoppm could also generate PNG files. Although I don't understand why you need the find command. The advantage of this method is that it bypasses the gstoraster/pdftoraster filters that handled the PDF file inside CUPS and might have been the problem. Instead, it us...

The primary market for Chromebooks has always been schools. The last thing that school boards want is a machine that can be pried open by kids and stripped of any removable parts. The more stuff you can solder down the better. What hobbyists may eventually do with the used machines is not a big conc...

I just tried installing ghostscript in FD, didn't make any difference to printing success for PDFs. Some other changes to the CUPS config would be necessary. I understand your logic. A crisis plan is in place for such an eventuality.

Then why mess with XP at all if you aren't using it for anything but secure backup of Puppy files. Remove the XP hard drive and convert it into an external USB drive.

Re: Technical Differences in Printing Methods - LibreOffice vs PDF

That's good news. How did you perform the successful print jobs? From the command line? From a browser? From LO? IIRC, the Fatdog developers made a decision to replace Ghostscript with a different tool that does the rasterization - turns the PDF into a bitmap. Maybe that's the source of the problem....

Re: Is there an easy way to transfer files from PC A to PC B on the same network?

No answer needs to be given. With all due respect, it does. Are you simply using the XP machine as a "secure" place to backup important files? If so, I would recommend against this. If/when this old machine eventually dies, you lose everything. If XP won't boot, you have no access to the ...

Booting from SD cards has always been unreliable.

2. Can you find the missing menu.lst file on the SD card?

Re: Technical Differences in Printing Methods - LibreOffice vs PDF

When you load a PDF label into LO, does it open in Write or Draw? I wonder if the chinese-vs-genuine issue has something to do with the amount of on-board memory in the units. A ZPL file is a set of instructions for how to create and print the label. CUPS sends the file directly to the printer whose...

@Chelsea80: Dual booting the XP machine will introduce a new set of problems, like how will you safely insert the downloaded files into the XP filesystem without corrupting it.

You never answered my set of questions above.
