Re: Technical Differences in Printing Methods - LibreOffice vs PDF

When you load a PDF label into LO, does it open in Write or Draw? I wonder if the chinese-vs-genuine issue has something to do with the amount of on-board memory in the units. A ZPL file is a set of instructions for how to print the label. CUPS sends the file directly to the printer whose engine the...

@Chelsea80: Dual booting the XP machine will introduce a new set of problems, like how will you safely insert the downloaded files into the XP filesystem without corrupting it.

You never answered my set of questions above.

Is this problem in LO specific to the Chinese printer or does it also happen with the genuine model?

Re: Technical Differences in Printing Methods - LibreOffice vs PDF

The driver I am using is the Zebra ZPL driver. That is obviously for Zebra printers. This printer is identified in CUPS as 4BARCODE 4B-2054L. I haven't had success in finding a working linux driver specifically for it. Are you talking about the filter built into CUPS? The one that CUPS would automa...

I figure that I'm not using the official driver, just the zebra driver which this printer is compatible with Please exp...

Re: Using NVME drives on old desktop computers.

There are more setup iterations of this including installing it to an internal drive and/or calling it from Grub2 that is installed on an internal drive, but I have not tested any of those. Thanks. Here is what I was wondering, but have no way of testing: If you moved the nvme drive to a UEFI machi...

Re: Using NVME drives on old desktop computers.

When you installed Windows, were there problems getting it onto the nvme drive and not overwriting your main hard drive? Did Windows also put its own bootloader stuff on the nvme? Typically, the Windows installer would then put an entry in the UEFI firmware boot order list to launch Windows. Did thi...

Chelsea80 : In all of this discussion, many of the key questions have never been addressed. 1. What exactly are you trying to accomplish? 2. What kind of files are you transferring? 3. In what direction - Puppy to XP or XP to Puppy? 4. Why are you transferring them? 5. Is this an occasional or regu...

Re: How to handle carriage return input in sed?

@MochiMoppel : Ths works for me too but I don't understand the syntax. The sed "i" command inserts a string into the file and ends it with a newline. So shouldn't inserting a newline give you TWO blank lines?

Re: How to transfer files from PC to PC wirelessly ?

@mikeslr

1. Does a Windows computer have the same problem as Puppy with dropouts/reconnections?

2. Your Verizon router may have a setting that makes it display the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands with different names. That might help things.

Re: How to transfer files from PC to PC wirelessly ?

Just to be clear, "5G" refers to the fifth generation of wireless cellular technology. This is the signal between a transmission tower and a cellphone. Don't confuse this with the 5GHz frequency band used by the wifi computer equipment inside your house.

@rcrsn51 If you want to see something run FAST, put an NVME module in a USB3 enclosure and use it as an external hard drive. Got the NVME to USB adapter and tested the speed, on USB 3 port it got about 437MB/s, compared with mouldy's internal NVME at 376. Thanks wizard With all due respect to mould...

Even if powerwashing reset the BIOS, it wouldn't be a big job to restore the SeaBIOS. And none of that would affect the stuff on your USB/SD drives.

Re: Transfers within Lan

Various solutions were proposed. Some of which can be applied without regard to what operating systems the computers run.

If you are just transferring files between Puppies, all you need is gnetcat. Remove the fake .gz extension.

The only dependency is lzop which is already in some Puppies.

Where is the not obsolete version? If it is to be an included application in future Puppy Linux variants it needs to be accessible for a woof-CE build run from a reachable repository.

It's in the Starter Kit project, available through Fred's repo. But that version is not Puppy-compatible.

Yes. But years ago, busybox dc changed its syntax and PeasyPDF was updated accordingly. Puppy continues to use an obsolete version.
