Re: evince bug

And another issue surfaced today in Fossapup64 - evince was chewing up to 50% cpu at times but without any recent open documents.

Once I killed it in task manager the cpu usage went down to a normal 10% or so ( and the temperature of the cpu went down 2 degrees too)

Re: S15Pup - Discussion

I love LXDE for business/office uses and as my daily driver. I especially like the way the desktop can be utilized as an always visible storage folder for interim files which dont need to be deleted using shutdown/no-save . But it does run a bit slower than JWM IMHO. For more technical work (eg phot...

Re: QEMU-KVM use

There is currently a GUIDE for QEMU KVM use that intends to be a simple elementary read. But, it is dated and needs an update that is specific to KLV. Its contents ARE accurate for those distro it shows. This is a very valuable instruction set which got me started in using QEMU in Puppy Linux (or a...

Re: Fossapup User Contributed Packages

I finally got pulseaudio working in LXDE Fossapup64. Fabulous ! Thanks ! When I tried to run pavucontrol PA did not connect. It turned out I needed to start the pulseaudio daemon (but not as root) to get it running. Took quite some googling until I found what was required. For anybody else who might...

Re: UEFI Only Boot Problems

What OS booted with the UEFI Installer program ??

I would otherwise suggest running a live version of fossapup (somehow...) and using stickpup/frugalpup to install a frugal version of Xenialpup64 (from an ISO file) or whatever pup is suitable.

Re: Can't get HP printer to work Cups/Hplip

Another thought... Years ago with tahrpup, I needed to load a special Hplip driver. Since then the PPM has been adequate to task. In my current situation with Bionicpup64, it is sufficient to instal hplip 3.17.10 from the Puppy Package Manager,BUT I also needed to also load hplip-data ( hplip-data.3...

Re: android-primeos-fat32-no save sesion

Thanks for bringing up the topic/OS. I had not heard of it.

I presume that you want persistence, not a savefolder/savefile as in puppy linux. You may have installed the ISO, but did you actually install the fullOS??

Anyway, you've got me thinking of trying this out in QEMU/VirtualBox

Re: How to run Puppy...iso in a VirtualBox with Save Session?

File transfer is quite easy in Puppy via PureFTP as server (host) and gftp as client (Virtual machine). Most puppy's have these OOTB. Just launch the Pureftp in the host, obtain the host IP address from the taskbar i/net icon. Launch Gftp in the virtual machine and type in the IP address with port 2...

Re: How to run Puppy...iso in a VirtualBox with Save Session?

Why do you want a savefolder on windows desktop? I cant see any value there, if it were possible. To have a Puppy savefolder/savefile in VBox you need to 0) Create a new virtual machine with the ISO added 1) Create a blank HDD as part of the startup - eg 8GB - best if compressed 2) Start the virtual...

Re: Possible full install a pup on uefi computer? (Multi boot)

Hi Oaktree, Wiser heads than mine will answer your post more fully, but in the meantime Puppy Linux is not meant for a full install, and it is not needed. A Frugal install will even be better in that it provides more flexibility. Puppy can be easily be frugally installed to modern computers, and the...

Re: USB-HDD installation

I doubt that W10 can read ext2/4 files. If you do install Puppy Linux in whatever partition you could always add a FAT32 or even a NTFS partiton on the end of the ext partition.to transfer files. The other option is to use a frugalpup to install Puppy Linux, which will create a FAT32 boot partition....

I remember when a 10MB HDD was $5000 or more. I used 100KB floppy disks instead. My first mac had a 40MB HDD. Despite these limitations I could do most of what I wanted back there then in the memory available, as programs were small. Now I do much, much more with the greater RAM and HDD sizes. The o...

Thanks for starting this new discussion. I can confirm that RUFUS can be used for many of the OS you mention above. Re: virtualbox on a usb flash drive

VirtualBox recommends the maximum RAM memory size on the slider which is usually half the amount installed as i recall.

I am not surprised that PopOS tanked at 5GB on an 8GB system. Maybe you have to be happy with less than half RAM for SUSE ??

Using the built-in installers in puppy is a bit hit and miss, especially the older ones. Bootflash used to work for me so I wonder if there is an issue with your boot setup, eg secure boot is not turned off. Frugalpup is great, but I prefer Stickpup (a part of Frugalpup anyway) as it uses the ISO as...
