No need for that because xfce menus automatically populates desktop files from XDG_DATA_DIR folders. Just add categories on /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu file

What I mean is where did you put your puppy files. Did you put at the root of the usb thumbdrive? If yes then try to remove the "pmedia" boot parameter in your bootloader config

May I see the your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file?
Yes you can try Wayland. You need to find a suitable DE with wayland support. XFCE wayland support was currently work in progress

Did you enabled remote desktop on Windows 7 and allowed on firewall in the first place? If not then do it first. Otherwise use RustDesk

Iphone was detected was digital camera when plugged in on Linux. All you need was PTP client software
