Re: For Dual Boot Does Puppy Only Make Changes to Its Folder?

Although it may have been based on something generally available I'm pretty sure its a 'Puppy exclusive'. Clicking "About" in the Menu shows Sigmund Berglund as its author; clicking "Credits" those who helped. I've never found anything as accomplished in any 'Major' Distro. One o...

Re: Bionicpup64: Boot Issue on Older PC with USB HDD - updating initrd.gz?

Not sure. But with an external hard-drive connected via a USB-cable I think --with the drive plugged in-- you have to set bios to give boot priority to USB-devices; then put the boot-loader on the USB-Hard drive, itself.

Re: For Dual Boot Does Puppy Only Make Changes to Its Folder?

Puppys run as root=Adminstrator. They have access to everything on a computer. But only Puppy's Home partition (the one on which is folder is located) is automatically mounted. You have to mount other partitions, e.g. Left-Click that partition's desktop icon. Consequently, Puppys can read-from and w...

Re: Which Puppy Linux for a beginner?

Let me disagree with those who've recommended the latest Puppy. Devs have to decide what to include keeping in mind what computers at that time use, how much space it will take to include something, and how much RAM will be required when that's copied into it. There is now available a 400 Mb fdrv.sf...

Re: Creating archive to install program and dependencies on offline system.

You really need a 2nd USB-Key which will boot up the same Puppy you have on the Key/CD/DVD which will always be off-line. You can use the 2nd Key just to download applications and their required dependencies, repackage them, then transfer your creation to your 'off-line' Key. PaDS, https://forum.pup...

Re: Whats up in Puppy World

I agree with dimkr. Was thinking about something similar while still discussing 'Modules'. dimkr's wording enabled my thinking to gel with this: -=-=--=- Each new Puppy now reflects 20 years experience in constructing responsive, portable, modular 32 and 64 bit systems. Puppy can boot from all stora...

First, let me thank Wanderer for starting this thread. It's a good idea to have one location for all of us to come together to discuss ideas and developments; for any of us to bring to the attention of others matters of general importance. In the past I've had to guess where to do that. Bu...

My final suggested wording. I have other things to do with my time. 195 Words: Each new Puppy now reflects 20 years experience in constructing responsive, portable, modular 32 and 64 bit systems. Puppy can boot from all storage media. It can share the partition used by Windows, another LinuxOS and o...

Puppy offering to install txz packages. Repeating bigpup's question early on: Which Puppy? Is it a 'Slacko'? I almost always use a Puppy based on debian or Ubuntu. Re: Some questions regarding .pets and .sfs files

Getting back to your OP, there are two factors I think important: (1) Floorp web-browser was forked from firefox but retains firefox's structure and system for managing files; (2) Puppys are not its only target audience. Very few LinuxOS can manage SFSes. While other LinuxOSes can use portables --I ...

@FloraMae As I am using LibreWolf as a SFS. Once you have got the initial boot screen and chosen your settings and saved them. You can limit the amount of files copied into RAM on boot-up --and thus the time it takes-- by adding the 'nocopy' command to the boot arguments. Using grub4dos, there's a line that starts with the word "kernel" and continues often ending with pfix=fsck. grub uses the same format and comma...

Haven't had breakfast yet so will only address the smtube '.txz' issue. I'm not familiar with the smtube you downloaded. But 'txz' is a packaging wrapper technique. When an application has several parts to avoid having to download each separately they are placed in a specifically named folder and an...

I've been comparing the condition of Bookworm before and after a Save. Creating an application to capture the changes made to the former before shut-down no longer seems as simple as I previously suggested. Maybe I've got it wrong. But I need to take a break. Will post my notes tomorrow.

If you like BookwormPup64 but want something lighter maybe you'll like Vanilla Dpup.
