Re: How to back up a save file, convert it to a save folder?
To convert back, just create a new blank directory, name it appropriately - no need for the 2fs/3fs/4fs extension, obviously! - then mount the save-file and just copy the contents over. I've never had any issues with doing this. Agreed. The only thing I'd add is, make sure you show the hidden files...

im now experiment with BionicPup32-8.0 (UPupBB-19.03) BionicBeaver Woof-CE build Ah ... in that case, have a look at https://forum.puppylinux.com/viewtopic.php?p=10900#p10900 I haven't used Bionic for a while but seem to recall having success with the WL driver. You might be able to find that in PP...

Re: WiFi - Broadcom BCM43142 chip
Hi babinio74, PPM is limited and out of date, unfortunately. However, I use BCM43142 as well, with the Broadcom STA driver. Which Puppy are you using (including the version number)? If you go to Menu > Setup, can you see another Package Manager listed? My own example: I'm using Vanilla Dpup 10.0.34 ...

Re: Do you prefer Firefox or Chromium as the default browser?
Here is another FF "bug". If FF is running, and you try and run it again, get this: ff-running-err.png Chromium, on the otherhand, will start a new tab in the currently-running Chromium. I wonder if this is something to do with how Firefox interacts with EasyOS? I usually use FP96 or Vani...

Re: Exit Wayland without shutting down?
Thanks dimkr . The only thing is, when Firefox freezes, everything freezes and I can't even access the terminal. I've tried again while Firefox isn't running and can confirm that Ctrl+Alt+F2 does normally work. I suspect I was just being impatient; it seemed to be taking a long time to go from a bla...

Exit Wayland without shutting down?
I'm running Vanilla Dpup 10.0.154 Wayland on an HP Stream 11 with kernel 6.1.12, booting from a USB stick. I've been extremely impressed with it so far; everything "just works" - even the (usually tricky) Broadcom wireless connection. However, Firefox occasionally freezes when playing a vi...

Re: Pulse-Audio : Adjusting to it
Thanks for starting a discussion about this, Mike. I've been having trouble getting to grips with PulseAudio and wasn't sure if it was a common issue or just my peculiar laptop (Toshiba Satellite P200; ALSA only recognises my speakers if they're plugged into the headphone socket). After tweaking /et...

I think the RasPI guys have made that decision based on how people use their boards. The legislation appears to apply to IoT devices like fridges and alarms, not home PC operating systems. Re: Puppy Network Managers - SNS, Frisbee, NetWiz, Pgprs, Pupdial
Many thanks, Richard! I've tested it three times on FossaPup 64, switching both laptop and phone off between tests (so the MAC address definitely changed each time). The third time, I waited until the desktop came up before switching on USB tethering; I could simply click the network icon and 'Conne...

Re: Interface names for tethered cell phones?
@redquine , To fix the code to handle randomized MAC addresses, I am considering using the interface name as an indication of that possibility, usbx. I need to know what the other form of the name is, too. Peebee's bionicpup32 (upupbb) and later upups use the "predictable" form of the nam...

Re: Laptop sometimes reboots after shutting any Puppy down
I had the same issue with a couple of older laptops - and yes, it was power management. Fixed it by adding the bootcodes
Code: Select all
pfix=noapic,nolapic
I was advised to try just noapic first and add nolapic if that didn't work - although for the life of me, I can't remember why!

Re: How to connect to Internet with usb0?
Bigpup tries to address as many questions as possible even if he doesn't have a precise answer, which is going to be a whole lot better than the opposite. What I do not understand is the experimental approach vs. the this-will-probably-work approach. It doesn't seem to me like a utility which seems...

Re: How to connect to Internet with usb0?
I've been using usb0 & Frisbee for several months. I used SNS at first (both before and after the update) but had to recreate the connection each time as the MAC address changed every time I connected the phone. I found a clunky workaround to satisfy my inner geek but TBH, Frisbee's a lot easier...

You could remap N to F1 by typing this in a text terminal (console): xmodmap -e 'keycode 67=n N' Thanks, that worked! I'd tried xmodmap without success & thought it was because it was deprecated, but it looks as if I just got the syntax wrong. Oops. That should keep me going till the wee...

How to remap broken key? (SOLVED)
My old laptop keyboard has decided it no longer likes the letter 'n' and ignores my attempts to type it. There's a straightforward workaround for the Google sign-in issue: if you're already signed in on an older version of portable Iron, just copy your profile across to the new folder. Google now happily syncs everything from both of my laptops (up-to-date portable Iron on Linux, and Chrome on Windoze)...

I have started up htop and it tells me that 1.73GB of 1.93GB RAM is used. That is with Google Chrome closed. Hi wanderer,
Great to see you here! What you've done so far with Corepup looks really promising; it ran beautifully on my old eeePC 701 with 512MB RAM.
Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
